Don't think so. Chiltern have never mentioned LHCS as a replacement for anything, just a way of achieving extra capacity in a period when there are no spare DMUs at all.
It seems to me far more likely that if there was a windfall of compatible DMUs the Chiltern LHCS would go back in its box...

Quite. If there had been an equal number of available 170s as there were locos and Mk3s Chiltern would have taken the 170s. However there weren't a load of extra compatible DMUs available so they took what they could get.
