Future shunter assessment

Hello all, I applied for the role of trainee driver back in 2007 for FCC as a 20 year old and got through to the interview stage but failed there.

I've now applied to be a shunter for Govia-Thameslink and they've given me a date for an assessment at Croydon. On the E-mail, they say I only have to revise the Group Bourdon and Rules & Procedures for this role.

I'm slightly confused as they have also sent me a 'Driver fault finding' exercise and I don't know if it is relevant. Should I revise for this part or concentrate on the GB and R&P's. Also, does anybody know if they do the multi-layered interview for shunting applicants? And is it generally done the same day, as the E-mail confirmation didn't mention the interview but I don't want to get caught out by it as I will find that the hardest part of all so need to prepare if so.

Can anybody give any advice for the shunters assessment and what to expect on the day?

Not sure what you can revise rules and regulations wise...are you external?.....There are loads of practice things you can do for the group bourdon ( dots)

As far as the DFFT if they've sent you practice material for it then I'd imagine it'll be part of your day so very advisable to practice it.......I've done it before and it's a test that going into blind can be tricky......having an understanding of it if nothing else I'd say would be invaluable.

Yes I am external. It's this - Trainability for rules and procedures test (TRP) that I meant to say originally.
It's the 'multi-modal interview' that I'm most concerned about. I would like to find out if that is part of the process for shunting applicants, or if it's just for trainee drivers, and if it all happens on the same day.
I remember that in 2007 I went to Leagrave, Luton for the dots and attention papers and then they asked me to go to Bedford for the interview and reaction exercises, I'm wondering if Govia are doing it this way.

Yeah that's the Glop test if I remember rightly so yes I'd of thought that'd be part of your day.....not so sure if it's something you can practice for but once again it's good to have an understanding of what it entails.

From looking at previous posts on here I'm certain that the MMI is part of the process for driving whether it's depot or mainline. Train companies all have differences so it's tough to say whether it'll all be on the same day.

I know when I did all my tests etc I walked in at 08.30 and walked out at 16.45 with all tests done on the same day. So very important to be clued up before you get there.

What depot are you looking at going to?

Max- Letchworth or Welwyn.

Red - The GLOP test was the same as in 2007 as I realised once presented with it. I passed that stage and the dots and dials too, so now have an interview in Hornsey next week. Because the shunting role that I've applied for doesn't involve driving, I think the interview will be more of a ordinary informal one rather than the MMI. I hope so anyway!

Sounds good mate.....If you're unsure I'd turn up prepared for it to be formal in the hope of being pleasantly surprised rather than vice versa lol.
