Nah It will probably be 769 at this rate! They haven't entered service yet.

769s are just 30+ year old 319s converted to Bi-mode and have entered service. So if the 379s are scrapped which seems likely then they will be some of the youngest EMUs to be scrapped.

Yes you are right, my knowledge seems to of failed me at that moment as I was thinking specifically of GWR! You are completely correct. I am sure there are others that have had a relatively short life.

I was also thinking as they are new class therefore technically they are young but again they are repurposed 319s, so not really.

No. Not unless there is a plan to scrap some 357s instead. c2c have 12 720s on order.

Off topic, but I never agreed with that order for 720s, when it was clear that secondhand stock would become available within the timescale needed. T

Yes they committed to buying new trains, but sensibly that could have been changed, I doubt any passengers in C2C land would have complained if they took on some 379s or 350s instead, or kept the 387s (and the 379s replaced them with GN)

I’m not aware of Harry Needle having facilities to fit ETCS.

387101 has gone to worksop to be fitted with ETCS, so I'd say there's obviously some sort of facility there to enable it.

My mistake - I’m getting mixed up with the fleet depots I’ve been to recently.

I was crossing over to platforms 7/8 at Cambridge Station and in the far sidings at the depot it looked like there was one (maybe two) 379 units sitting there.

If it was a 379 I wonder what it's doing at Cambridge and not with the rest of the fleet.

There is spare siding space there. Same as why some units are at Norwich, Ilford, Aldersbrook and Harwich. There isn't any need to store all 30 in the same place, indeed not many suitable locations where it could easily be done.

With the withdrawal of the 315s, and presumably the movement of these units for scrap, presumably space for four more 379s will be created at Aldersbrook? There doesn't seem to be much else that would go in there.

I believe when I passed yesterday, all four roads at Aldersbrook were occupied by 379s, so should be 8 stored there now.

315s now gone from Aldersbrook last I saw - I believe they’re all now at Ilford or Gidea Park CHS.

Five roads at Aldersbrook - all 8-car (160m) so not much use for regular traffic now that Greater Anglia has 5 and 10 car trains of 120m and 240m.

Interesting to hear there are four pairs of 379s there already, there were three pairs of 379s and the two pairs of 315s there on Thursday.

NR like to keep the road nearest the tunnelling academy clear as an access point for road-rail vehicles, but yes MTR have no need for Aldersbrook CS now the 315s are no more.
