One of the better excuses I've heard.

I suspect Autumnal rail conditions between Carmarthen and Cardiff where, as we know, it terminated. A fresh train started up Right Time to go forward to Manchester.

My favourite from a few years back was trains being cancelled due to a 'large inflatable hamburger drifting on the tracks' in the Bristol area

Never thought that one would appear publicly when I was translating the delay attribution guide...

Not exactly a main line cancellation, but come across a few funny excuses for a delay working in a booking office...

Train turns up 50 minutes late due to the fireman losing his shovel, before finding it in the firebox...

The Northern unit that caught fire a few months ago between Leeds and Bradford Interchange was described as being cancelled due to a "mishap"!

Same thing with the recent fire on 144 between Rochdale and Littleborough, that was classed as a mishap according Realtime trains

Its to do with the TRUST codes that are limited in options. The mishap one is a general any other reason that can be used with further details given in TRUST.

Don't think I've ever used that one myself.

Would you be entitled to compensation if you were delayed significantly by this, or would "it being autumn" be treated as a circumstance outside the rail industry's control?

Last time I checked rail staff are yet to gain control over the elemental forces of nature. Maybe Virgin though...
