We went from Stapleton Road to Bath Spa for the afternoon today. On arrival at Temple Meads around 11:40 all of the platform displays were out of order, but staff members were bawling out where to go and we got on a Paddington-bound IEP. On the way back we arrived at TM around 17:15 to a similar situation, made worse by the evening rush. People were milling about aimlessly being shouted at 'London platform 13!' etc. We found a WSM to Severn Beach about to depart and off we trundled. Immediately a 'live' announcement on the PA: 'This train is going to Severn Beach, NOT Cardiff Central, and NOT Worcester via Gloucester! If you have boarded the wrong train, please change at Stapleton Road' Repeated four times.

Displays off-line at Newton Abbot (at 12.30) all the way to at least and including Taunton to.

Maybe something to do with this:

Technology giant Microsoft has apologised after thousands of people across the world reported issues with its products, ranging from email service Outlook to the hit game Minecraft.

Downdetector, which tracks websites, showed thousands had reported problems, external on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident comes less than two weeks after a major global IT outage left over eight million computers using Microsoft systems inaccessible, impacting healthcare and travel, after a flawed software update by the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.

Microsoft said it had implemented a fix for the problem which "shows improvement", and it will monitor the situation "to ensure full recovery", external.

But it has separately told people, external it has "no ETA" for how long the issue would take to resolve.

The tech giant previously said it was "investigating reports of issues connecting to Microsoft services globally".

Seemed like a wide outage. I was at Reading in the afternoon and all displays were down. My SWR app failed to load any data as well. I relied on RTT.

Oxford and Didcot Parkway were both down in the afternoon, but Reading was fine by six o'clock. The station staff at Oxford did an excellent job of making announcements though.

Lucky you! Half an hour or so earlier there was just silence. In precisely the situation where continuous announcements would have been welcome, there were none at all.

The screens on the platforms and overbridge at Reading were down at teatime yesterday but the main summary screen at the barrier line was OK. At first I thought there had been another Windows meltdown.

Edit: Just seen post #2 by @Grumpy Git

Mind you - given the false information often displayed by the PIS, it might not be considered too much of a loss. System is not fit for purpose.

Was there an issue preventing manual announcements?

Whilst the station roof works take place, the main P.A speakers have been silenced, with there being temporary P.A speakers being placed around the hoardings. These, however, are inadequate as they are ridiculously quiet. Not sure if it’s a power issue preventing them from being turned up, however I’ve complained to GWR and Network Rail several times about this.

They weren’t being used either (I’m used to them by now!)
