Hey all
I was looking at train times on the National Rail Enquiries Website for a journey to London and I noticed 2 First Hull Trains services are fully reserved. Its the first time I have seen this.
I think its good of Hull Trains and National Rail Enquiries to make this information available.
I wanted to know if any other TOCs have done the same in the past?
As Rail Staff, we have access to some information on how much of a train has been reserved. Maybe more of this information should be made public to help passengers chose which trains to travel on.

Sounds possibly like a one off exceptional circumstance for H.T. today due to Hull City's first ever appearance in the FA cup final :D

How have they got enough trains for that? They only have four and I've worked out that they need three to run the timetabled services. If the spare is available, then one train can be doubled up. Are they hiring a Grand Central Class 180?

I also notice that they are rubbing an additional train at 21:10 calling at Brough and Hull only. Is this a 5 or 10 car train?

I'm sure that on previous occasions, they have hired a unit in from FGW, as their fleet is not as highly utilized on the weekend.

Source: I think I read it on here :)

How's the coupling gone for that? Did they start last night to give them plenty of time if any of the 180s through a hissy fit?

Not sure who owns what but the units on the services up from Hull today are;-
180110 and 180113 on 1A92 08.25 ex Hull
180109 and 180111 on 1A93 10.30 ex Hull
180106 on 1A94 13.30 ex Hull
180103 on 1A95 15.30 ex Hull.

180106 on 1A94 13.30 ex Hull
180103 on 1A95 15.30 ex Hull.

That's interesting. I worked out Hull Trains' diagrams a few weeks ago and I got this (note that I don't know the official diagram numbers so I made them up):

SO
HT001
1A92 08:25 HUL-KGX 11:07
1H03 11:48 KGX-HUL 14:19
1A95 15:30 HUL-KGX 18:06
1H08 19:48 KGX-HUL 22:23

HT002
1A93 10:30 HUL-KGX 13:07
1H05 14:48 KGX-HUL 17:25
1A96 18:30 HUL-KGX 21:11
5Y96 21:29 KGX-XBO 22:34 (Q)
5V96 21:29 KGX-XOO 23:38 (Q)

HT003
5H01 08:58 XBO-KGX 09:17 (Q)
5H01 06:49 XOO-KGX 09:17 (Q)
1H01 09:48 KGX-HUL 12:19
1A94 13:30 HUL-KGX 16:08
1H06 17:48 KGX-HUL 20:18

HT004
*SPARE AT XOO*

KGX-London Kings Cross
HUL-Hull
XBO-Bounds Green Depot
XOO-Old Oak Common Depot
Q- Runs as required.

According to that, 180110 and 180113 should be forming 1A95. Presumably they are staying in London and forming a later service back (maybe the additional service at 21:10), with 180103 working down from KGX on 1H03?

Indeed, there are moves to and from Bounds Green today - 5A92 and 5H09.

Last time HT wanted to run doubled up services they carried out the coupling the day before just in case there was an issue in getting the 180s to talk to each other (I also seem to recall they had three units and could even use the triangle at Hull to turn them around to try coupling other ends if needed). I was therefore wondering if they'd had to do something similar this time.

I wonder if the fire brigade is on standby as well with it being a warm day? Have they solved the 180's tenancy to catch fire yet?

Well there's nothing left over at Hull... Units or passengers that is!

There's 2 doubled up services today, and they're both formed entirely of Hull Trains units. I do note they don't seem to be uncoupling them between now and the return services...

Sorry to drag this slightly off topic, but what is Hull Trains operating procedure when running units in multiple? Is there a guard, plus onboard staff, in each unit or is there just the one guard in the rear set?

FGW have done it in the past, Glastonbury often saw it happen, FA Cup finals in Cardiff, etc, I remember when the total eclipse was happening in Devon/Cornwall, they had reservation only on trains headed that way. Not sure if they do it now as, unlike then, we (in the north) don't get much information about it (if it happens).

I've just come off a northbound 10 car, which seemed to have the standard crew allocation on board, with the exception of 2 traveling fitters! Rear unit was locked out of use though.

I'm guessing that was 1H05? If so, i'm surprised that it was a double set as it won't be able to get back to London in time to work another northbound working (it's booked to work 1A96 back to London, arriving at 21:11, but due to engineering works, it won't get back until after 10pm).

On arrival at Hull it divided, with one unit going on depot. There is only one return HT after the match and that'll be formed by the other southbound 10 car, which should have spent the day at Bounds Green.

I believe the amended diagrams are as follows:

Friday 16th May 2014
Extra ECS working: 5Z80 1150 Bounds Green T&R.S.M.D to Hull 1500

Saturday 17th May 2014
180110 and 180113
3A92 0600 Doncaster to Hull 0652 (presumably 1 unit only, couples with unit ex 5Z80)
1A92 0825 Hull-London Kings Cross 1107
5A92 1155 London Kings Cross to Bounds Green T&R.S.M.D 1226
5H09 2003 Bounds Green T&R.S.M.D to London Kings Cross 2021
1H09 2111 London Kings Cross to Hull 2336

180103
5H03 0945 Old Oak Common H.S.T.D. to London Kings Cross 1120
1H03 1148 London Kings Cross to Hull 1419
1A95 1530 Hull to London Kings Cross 1806
1H08 1948 London Kings Cross to Hull 2303

180109 and 180111
1A93 1030 Hull to London Kings Cross 1307
1H05 1448 London Kings Cross to Hull 1725
1A96 1830 Hull to London Kings Cross 2209

180106
5H01 0649 Old Oak Common H.S.T.D. to London Kings Cross 0922
1H01 0948 London Kings Cross to Hull 1219
1A94 1330 Hull to London Kings Cross 1608
1H06 1748 London Kings Cross to Hull 2104
5Z80 2120 Hull to Old Oak Common H.S.T.D. 0116

Feel free to correct me if i've got anything wrong. :)

I'm surprised that Hull Trains have problems. FGW couple their 180s up every day at the start end of service for ECS moves to/from Old Oak Common.

I think its more historic than that. When HT and GC first did their joint services during planned engineering works south of Doncaster there was much concern and planning... I think there was one occasion where they had to give up and proceed with a very busy 5 car service.

If FGW are doing it every day I'm sure thats helped iron out the issues, certainly I've not seen any evidence of problems for at least 6-8 months.

Out of interest do we know why FGW don't use the 180's at the weekend? It's really irritating turning up at Great Malvern to have to suffer a 166 all the way to London just because it's a Saturday :p

On arrival at Hull it divided, with one unit going on depot.

Wouldn't that have meant that they would have ended up with five units staying in Hull overnight instead of two? (180110, 180113, 180103, 180106 and either 180109 or 180111 [which ever unit didn't go to the depot]). There was a path to Old Oak Common at 2120, so two units could have returned then (presumably the FGW units), but what about the third? I don't see any paths back to Bounds Green or Old Oak Common either late on Saturday night or on Sunday.

Edit: Can't be both FGW units as 180103 wouldn't have arrived until 2303. I'm confused!

As in 1H05 (2x HT) diveded, with one forming 1A96 and the other, my guess is forming 5Z80, ready for the double formed service from London to Hull on Sunday afternoon.

My understanding is that the FGW units worked south on the Sunday.

180106 worked back to OOC on Saturday night as 5Z80 , 180103 coupled to 180111 and worked 1A96 back down to London on Sunday evening .
