Hi.

I am new to this forum. I am aware that there is a guide known in the industry as the Railway Rule Book. A couple of years ago, I downloaded a compiled copy (i.e. all the modules from www.rgsonline.co.uk) that had ALL the operating information. The document was in PDF format and its main colour scheme was blue and white. I am now having trouble finding it again. Just wondering if anyone knew where I could get it...

Thanks in Advance

p.s. Is there a hard copy of this that can be purchased online?

Mine came in three binders too, and I can't imagine it fitting in any less! I could probably fill one binder with stuff that doesn't apply to me though - was yours ordered as a full set or (probably slightly cheaper?) just the modules that you needed?

I have all the modules (well, apart from POSA). It fits inside both of them fine, whether or not they are bigger binders I don't know.

As a side note, has anyone ever had a binder with knackered binders? 4 of us got given brand new rule books at the same time, all 4 of us had 1 of the binders broken in the same way

I inherited mine second hand, but they are always updated for me. They are the same as the ones you've got, although i must have one more than you for some reason?

Maybe yours are just more evenly split between the three binders! we are also only given two index cards to stick in the side sleeve, maybe they used to be 3 now they have shrunk it to 2 somehow..

I'll compare it to mine tonight, but I'm sure there's less there! I spy not many green ones either. I don't think they gave me any index cards - I made my own up!

I'll be sad and count how many modules I have

I believe I have 36 modules, not including any cards or leaflets but including glossarys and the like!

Aha, that looks more like the full set! I suppose mine ought to fit into two binders too then, even after the numerous examples of Origami contained within.

Not all drivers (or other roles for that matter) need or necessarily get all rule books. I'm not sure why anyone would fork out on a complete set when they get amended or replaced so regularly. Those who need them will get updated ones for free but for those who don't it could become a very expensive hobby!

The web link will have the current (live) versions and older versions.

When I started with BR in the late 80s I was issued with a personal rule book, only one binder in those days, A5 and less than an inch thick. Probably only the first part on general conditions of employment was relevant to me (presumably no longer included as this is an issue for each employer separately).

The update process certainly involved plenty of origami, including cutting bits out of the update pages and sticking them to the page to be amended. Obviously someone had thought about reducing the size of the update but not about all the time people would spend updating them or the safety risk if it wasn't done!

I am glad now the amendments have been done away with (I was happy when I opened up my latest bunch of updates!!) and there wasn't that much in the PONs

Yes the amendments were a pain and I'm also glad they've got rid. I can guarantee that most depots would have had significant numbers of drivers without correctly amended rulebooks. It used to get very confusing.

The new Index module does not display where things can be found in the entire rule book, why has this been removed?
