When everyone has been trained I guess. All fitters and drivers. Be there for a few weeks, be interesting to see where it ventures out to. My guess would be either training trips to Westbury or Woking.

Good Evening.

First post, so forgive me for bringing up an old post. But its a large reason i joined. (Though i have enjoyed reading these pages for ages)

Does anyone know the timetable for the Class 70 003 through Southampton Central? I have yet to hear the 70 in action, i read it is a sound to be enjoyed...

I was going through Southampton Tunnel a few weeks ago on the 14.00 London Waterloo service and 70003 passed in the dark of the tunnel! Since then i have been down to Southampton Central 5 times to see her rawr pass, yet its always been a Class 66 around 14.00-14.05. Today it was another 66, yet on my 158958 to Salisbury at 14.11 i saw 70003 in Southampton Maritime. When does she come alive? Its not right i have had the Bachmann model 70001 for months yet never seen the real thing in action!!

(Btw - why 70003 - thought she was from the Heavy Haul pool?)

Thanks in advance.

70003 is used on the Wentloog diagram, as it comes back the same day. This train leaves Southampton at about 5am and returns at about 2pm. Like you said, it can also run as a 66, so it's just down to luck. If you want to keep track of when its running, you should sign up to WRGEN on yahoo groups.

A 70 came through platform 3 towards Millbrook when I was departing on the 1410 Cardiff service a couple of weeks back.

It should be out either tomorrow or Wednesday, you'll see it at Eastleigh approx 13.50. It should be in daily service within a couple of weeks, but I dare not quote actual trains - Freightliner are a bit touchy about unofficial publicity. It would have been out today, but there is something going on (press) at Millbrook, plus the GE people want to have a tinker with it today as apparently it 'phoned in sick' on Friday.

It can do that then?

I know the Desiro's report themselves to Siemens when they have a minor door fault.

Thank you all for your responces. That youtube link sounds so good! I certainly shall be making sure i am in pole position to see 70003 tomorrow or wednesday! (Only now how to cancel lunch plans without non train fans not feeling stood up over a train! lol).

If 70003 shall be in regular service on these times in a few weeks time, then is it to change into the Intermodal pool? Or shall we be seeing 70 - 001/007/008 or 009?

It's out on Tuesday & Thursday, 4V50 & 4O51. The do at Millbrook is next Monday, not today.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
And i suppose there is no need for secrecy, from next Monday 4M99/4O22 are also diagrammed for FUGLY. You won't see O22 unless you are an early bird though.

Thanks for the information! I saw 70003 today at Southampton Central. What a beast! There is something rather appealing about the Class 70 within its ugly and brutal exterior. I am a fan for sure and look forward to more arriving upon our shores.

Look out for 4M61 on Monday 4th April. FUGLY (not number 3) being named at a big publicity event in Southampton, 4M61 likely to be worked by newly named loco.

I expect the completion of the W10 clearance (last month) is part of the reason for Monday's do - so it'll probably be a F/L, NR, ABP joint bunfight. Are heavier and longer trains part of the reason for more 70s being used fairly suddenly?

ABP will be keen to announce completion to the container market, (but maybe not so keen to highlight the £3 levy per box that goes towards their share of the bill).

Some figures here: http://www.dpworldsouthampton.com/portuserzone/portuserreports/documents/RailGaugeClearanceFAQs.pdf

I was told by a Freightliner (truck) driver that there is indeed an event at Freightliners MILLBROOK terminal on Monday, he said theres gonna a marquay (tent) up with munchies etc and the press have been invited along, it is indeed to publicly launge the W10 loading gauge!
He never said anything about a loco naming but it does make sence, he was more ****ed off about the fact that due the press being about hes been told he has to give his truck a wash and brush up, lol.

If its not 001 as shes named "Powerhaul" and 003 is part of the Heavy Haul pool, does this mean a third 70 shall be making it to Southampton for Mondays event? I will be heading to Salisbury tomorrow and will enjoy my glance of maritime as i pass by.

What abouts time does 4M61 run?

I was at the over bridge looking down on the depot today - 70001 is in exactly the same position as shown in dcd's photos, but there was no sign of 70003 or any other 70s for that matter! (I did however count nine 66s!)

There are meant to be two FUGLYS down for Monday, 003 is supposed to be going back to Heavy Haul so won't be the one getting named (if indeed one is going to be named). I think 4M61 is due away from Millbrook at around 10.55, and should be at Eastleigh 11.11 - 11.13 for a crew change.
