Of the 4 main TOCs with Manchester depots, FTPE is the one I'm least familiar with. I'm assuming they are more or less as good an employer as most other TOCs. I don't hold out much hope but like said, you gotta be in it to win it!

I would apply, but I don't have a car license yet (still learning) and I don't want to be rejected for this role then be unable to apply for a similar role for 6 months.

I can't say I'm wildly optimistic, some of the parts about safety critical aspects of my current/previous roles, emergency situations etc I found quite challenging, but we'll see!

Am I right in thinking that if I don't get past the application form stage, that's when you have to wait 6 months to apply for any other TOC?

I'm not sure if it would be restricted to FTPE or any other First owned TOC.
I can't apply for any customer service postions for 6 months with FTPE after my application for a position at Huddersfield was rejected.

It says on the incredibly helpful traindriver.org that FTPE operate a 5 day week; they seem to one of the very few TOCs who do - anyone know the reason?

Also, why do they ask about religion and sexuality in the application form? Is it just so that they can say "We received xxx applications from Buddhist cohabiting lesbians" etc? I'm guessing they won't actually use what I put in there in any way other than that will they...

I'm picking up vibes on here that FTPE are not an amazing TOC to work for... can anyone shed any light?

I know several who left one company to join a First operation. It's true they have a certain reputation and are known for being strict but if you want your keys then get in, keep your head down and your licence clean then they are as good as anyone else. Once qualified and out of PQA you can look at going elsewhere if you want. Some like First and some don't, same with any employer. Don't let it put you off chasing the dream if they are willing to give you a chance to achieve it.

Personally First isn't for me now and I'm quite happy with who I drive for.

FGW FCC yes but not this mob. I give you the example of Two Guards, passed the assesments and driver manager interviews smoothly. Both good records as Guards and offered jobs.

However TPE were reducing the number of Guards Managers then, and to stop them being surplus guards they were offered the Driving Positions.

A confirmed offer isn't what it seems.

I know three ex-freight drivers now working for FTPE and they love it and have said it's the best decision they've ever made.

More than 2 years after the move they still have no regrets.

Unusually for me, I would suggest new entrants should apply.

By the time it takes most to qualify as drivers, there may be a reputable, honest company running Transpennine Express instead.

I've put in an Application for this position and also for the Trainee Driver Positions with FCC! Got to be in it to win it I suppose! Either one I'd have to relocate but I'm chasing the dream!

If in unsuccessful in both applications, what are the timeframes for re-applying please?

Ive applied for the FTP trainee driver post; the 6 month thing where you cant reapply again didn't seem to apply, because I'd previously applied to First Scot Rail (same company different name) and i was unsuccessful with them and told that I couldn't re-apply for 6 months!

along came the FTP role so I thought i'd try my chances again; & I was able to apply! although given the amount of potential applicants, plus the amount of times i've been rejected or put on hold etc. Im always hopeful, you never know....
