I applied for FTPE trainee conductors at Liverpool Lime St and Manchester Piccadilly, a couple of days ago I got the knock back for Piccadilly but today I've been invited to assessments at liverpool on 23rd July. If successful there will be interviews either 5th 6th 7th August.

I recently applied for the FTPE trainee conductor role, I was wandering on how long the application process takes to hear anything back, i know these things are hard to timescale but if anyone on here has applied before how long did it take?

Application went in on the 5/6/13, the online application tracker says awaiting shortlisting still. Anyone know anymore?

Hi Dave,

Further to my answer to your second question earlier in the week, I would ordinarily expect to be waiting a month. The deadline for the York job was the 10th of June, I am not quite sure what the deadlines were for the other locations mentioned so far on these pages.

Last year, the assessments, including the Group Bourdon, took place in October preceding the interviews.

Hi there!

According to the OPC website, there are three possible scenarios. I have encountered the one where you are a conductor on an imaginary train dealing with a passenger with several requests which you would expect to encounter during your career as a guard, albeit not all at once as in the scenario.

My advice to you is to be as constructive and helpful as you can. In the words of a certain advert, impossible is two letters too many. Just think back amongst your time as a travelling passenger. It turns out that some of the examples in the role play may have taken place right under your nose. I for one could have kicked myself.

Should tell you about every test going although there will be little in the way of practice material. I would also recommened the website for DB Schenker who conduct assessments for drivers and conductors.

By way of elaboration, I would add that many passengers have different needs ranging from the drunks returning from York races in need of a good coffee, amongst other things, to other passengers who may not be too good on their feet. Personally, my need is to study the line should I ever be offered the job.

Same here, I just keep checking for any emails and logging in to the First careers website to see if the status of my application has changed from 'Invited for assessment'..........
