AFAIK, Northern don't have any ex-TPE 158s, they all went to FGW, SWT and EMT, unless it was a centre car.
I don't think the three car 158s ever make it out towards Hull, certainly I've never seen one (and I've seen a lot of 158s there over the last two years).
Nope, it wasn't one of those. It was burgundy in colour with the full size 'N' on the side. Just below the windows was solid blue with TPE branding. No TPE no longer have any 158s (and haven't for sometime) though some of their drivers/guards still sign them as they operate some services on behalf of Northern Rail on the Yorkshire Coast Line. Did you perhaps see a 158 with a special advertising livery there are several in service on Northern 158s such as this one (though there are many more styles than just that one)?

Metro livery, as carried by all the Class 158/9s.

There aren't any 158s that still retain the Northern Spirit "Big N" livery, which were the only 158s (except for 158750) to receive those awful blue First vinyls on the lower bodyside.Nope, it wasn't one of those. All the 158/9s are in standard Northern colours now though, and the only one of them that carried a livery that would even come close to fitting the description of having a "full size N on the side" would have been 158909, but that was some years ago now, and, as has been said, none of the WYPTE Metro 158/9s were given First vinyls.Metro livery, as carried by all the Class 158/9s.
Dunno what I saw then. I was tired and concentrating more in getting in my next train than looking specifically. Strange.Well this seems a bit odd as there are no units that carry TPE livery any more. Either that or the OP encountered a temporal vortex that allowed them to glimpse Hull station circa 2004![]()
