frodsham to blackpool

Hi Forum,

Once again I'm after some fare advice.

I am travelling from frodsham to blackpool on bank holiday monday 13th april before 09:00am , returning the same day.

There are 2 adults and a 1 year old I have a family rail card but was wondering can I use a northern duo ticket for this fare and how much would it be.

Anytime Return £20.85

As you travel by Arriva Wales to Warrington & then Virgin to Preston the Duo could only be used between Preston & Blackpool and would not save you any money.

As far as I know, there are no 'Duo' fares from Frodsham / Warrington / Manchester to Blackpool. Your cheapest return is with the railcard, £20.85 (Anytime return rte Any Permitted) or £24.80 (Off-Peak Day return rte Manchester). There are no time restrictions on the Off-Peak Day return as it is a Bank Holiday.

Although I'm not 100% sure on this - Having never travelled with children - I don't think that the child will need a ticket as long as he/she is travelling with a fare-paying adult.

From what I recall, child fares apply between the ages of five and fifteen years old inclusive, with accompanied children four and under travelling for free at all times. However, I would ask another member of the forum to confirm this beforehand though, as different TOCs might have different rules for child fares.

I know I don't need a ticket for the child but If I buy the child one it enables me to use the family rail card so it is cheaper.

The Family and Friends Railcard website says

2. My child is under 5, can I still use a Family & Friends Railcard?

If the only child in the Family & Friends Railcard group is aged less than 5 years of age, the Railcard holder must purchase a discounted ticket for the child in order for that accompanying adult(s) to qualify for the discount on their ticket(s).
