Hi all , Hope you can give some info as to what freight goes through frodsham station, I have just moved into the area and can hear heavy movement but not sure what it is. I have checked it against the locol stoppers to Wales and Manchester so know its not them, times would also help.

I see stone, timber and coal regularly through Helsby, just down the road from you so I would assume most of this passes through Frodsham too.

Coal empties Garston to Ellesmere Port southbound about 8.15am. FHH Class 70.

Coal from Ellesmere Port to Fiddlers Ferry Power station hauled by sameClass 70 northbound daily at about 12-30pm

Coal empties FFPS to EP southbound at about16.15.pm -Class 70

Coal EP to FFPS northbound at about 20-15pmClass 70

Gypsum also for FFPS[?] which stables or runs round at E Port - Class 66[not sure if this is correct]

Logs from Carlisle to Chirk southbound about 18-15pm.

Tues/Thu only - coal Warrington to Pennyffordd southbound about 07-20am -returns about 20-35pm

Times from Freightliner book based on Helsby [next station south] but the times are also available on the 8ARail website

Gypsum from Fiddler's Ferry Power Station I presume, or lime inwards - sorry to be pedantic but large power stations run lime in, gypsum out through the "scrubbers" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrubber ).

Passed by Frodsham many times on the M56 - always thought the approach to the station from the east over the viaduct looked very picturesque.
Even came back once on the the A56 just to see it from the other side.

Glad you mentioned this, as it was in that very location on the M56 when I first saw the chevrons and the large notices informing road users of the minimum number of chevrons to keep between cars for purposes of safety.

Living in this area I somewhat puzzled by the number of accidents on this perfectly straight piece of road! One good reason to travel by train to work. Those ATW 175's are very comfortable on a commute.

For more interest you could hop on a 175 at Frodsham and get off at Warrington Bank Quay - one stop I think. Here you will get a good variety of freight workings including coal trains from Lverpool Bulk Terminal to Fiddlers Ferry and also to Radcliffe PS plus electrics and 66s on intermodal and other workings from Scotland. The station staff are friendly [so I'm told]. It is just a short step from Bank Quay to an overbridge over the line giving access from Arpley yard to Latchford sidings where the Fiddlers Ferry trains have to reverse to gain access to the low level line that passes under BQ station. So you get to see the trains twice - the Liverpool Bulk Terminal trains arrive from the north into Arpley yard, run round, draw forward to Latchford and then run round before heading off west on the low level line. They return an hour or so later. You will also see the Ellesmere Port Class 70 hauled trains here.Middle of the day is probably the best time. You just go straight ahead out of BQ station, parallel with the low level line, and take the first right - a five minute walk. The road immediately after the overbridge goes to EWS Arpley depot which you can partly view from the public road - including 56018 stored at the end of a siding

Another good spot can be Runcorn station (not Runcorn East which is the next stop up from Frodsham) where there is plenty of freight. Of course, with the Halton Curve still shut in all but name, you can't travel direct to Runcorn station by train from Frodsham station.
