Well done and good luck, did you get an email or phone call to confirm the interview? Loads of information regarding these questions on these forums.

Have you done the vse sje before finding out that you have an interview?
Thanks you too! I received an email to confirm the interview. Yes I done them on the 7th and received an email confirming interview on the 16th.

Was this email from OPC or Freightliner? I've had an email from OPC (last Tuesday) but no contact from Freightliner yet.

I received an email on the 16th from the OPC confirming I passed the VSE and SJT and received a call from HR in Freightliner the following day confirming an interview.

Out of curiosity, has anyone who applied for Eastleigh been progressed in anyway?

Starting to think they had specific depots they wanted to progress first?

Hi all, got a DMI for Bedford this week, any tips? Looked through the forums and feel like I’m getting there with prep, any more info on the routes/traction? Looks like it’s mostly construction materials with class 66’s in and out of London just want to make sure I’m on the right track.
Also anyone else gone for Bedford haven’t really seen anyone in here
Cheers

Hi all,

I’ve also got my DMI next week for Earles sidings. I’m struggling to locate any relevant DMI info in the forums, don’t suppose anyone could bang a link in here, would be very much appreciated.

cheers.

Or even better, anyone that’s already sat the DMI, how did it go? What questions were asked?

I wish we had examples of any shift patterns working for Freighliner at all...
You need to wait until you start, all depots differ.

All my rosters are in the loft now, but even so, if I did put one up, it could be massively different to the depot your going too.

Intermodal is Mon - Friday really. I can't really comment on HH, but they done all sorts of shifts and weekends. At one stage, they never had start and finish times, it was just Am, Pm and nights.

When I worked at intermodal the jobs were pretty good, may be one Sunday in 13 weeks with some links that had none, and approx 5 Saturdays in 13.

My jobs were quite sociable and the rubbish start times were put in the starters link. We had 39 RD's off in 13 weeks so you get 156 days off over 52 weeks, plus leave on top. 156 days is pretty standard at most TOC's and FOC's. I have 156 RD's at my depot, though I'm at a TOC. I can't remember the leave entitlement, but it was 4 weeks off a years, plus floating days. Most weeks are either 4 days or 5.

You get plenty of time off, but you will need that to get over your nights!!!!!. Good luck.

What about an hours? Why does IM and HH differ moneywise?

I still haven't even had a reply from OPC :(

20 business days are up tomorrow.
Same here, I must have messed up the application is what I am thinking, 20 working days is up on the 30th isn't it?

I know the OPC are very busy but it seems a little unfair to keep people waiting so long, if I have been unsuccessful I would rather find out earlier than have to wait so long.

It's the hope/waiting that kills you right!

My previous experience of OPC has been very good, never more than a week but hey-ho, just keep waiting

Check your junk that’s where mine went. I passed it but due to numbers been put in talent pool
Check it daily, expecting TP as I know that's pretty much what everyone who applied for Crewe has received so far

To be honest I am surprised that this vacancy came up, as there is still a large pool from 2018 who have already passed their DMI.

Like I said, hours differ from depot to depot....I'm not sure if your on about start times or length times. In my link, my first turn was around 04:25 sign on, and the last one was about 22:00ish. They ranged from 6 hours to 10hr 45. If you was in the starter link, their first turn was 00:30.

The difference in pay. I started at Intermodal from the start 97/98 and left about 5 years ago, I was there when they set up HH.
Being a intermodal driver, you had a roster and could see what you were doing over the course of 6 months and could plan your life, you also had conditions, but the pay was a lot lower. If I can remember, about 5k when it kicked off. HH would work ballast jobs at weekends, where I would always be in bed Saturday and Sunday night...HH really never had any conditions, no start times just AM,PM and nights, so you had to be quite flexible, this was reflected in the bigger pay, and still to this day.
I think HH still may work to AM,PM and nights, though over the years they have picked up more and more booked work, so they may even have start times now.

I think Intermodal are currently on about 51k (pretty poor), not sure on HH but must be around 58/59k. If I had the choice, and if I was still there I would still stick with Intermodal. Having conditions are a must. I didn't fancy driving around in a van and having my breaks in a petrol station...Nah thanks.

Where do you work now if you don't mind me asking and what was the reason you left?

That's a personal question...lol...I don't like to give out where I work now, in case I have upset someone on here....lol.

I got asked by a driver manager that had jobs coming up at his depot, and said about putting in for one. The increase of the salary was nearly 17k, so this just shows you how low pay Intermodal was, so it was quite tempting. The only downside I had to travel to London. I'm lucky and still come under the BR umbrella so I get free travel to work and all the other perks.

Though I enjoyed the freight and still miss it in some way, the jobs started to change. The nights were getting longer and driving 200 miles was knackering my body clock up. I hated finishing 8am Saturday morning, though it was not all the time. I spent 31 years on the freight, and wanted something cleaner and a better working environment. I've spent many years in a freezing mess rooms, one of them sharing with Roland Rat!!!!!. I now prefer and nice warm quiet cab, whizzing around in a high speed milk float.

I was offered to go back to freight, but sadly declined......I'll leave it to all you youngsters, I don't need to get up at 3am now.

Though I may sound negative, I will say Freightliner weren't bad to work for....Every day will be different, not like mine. You will go to different places, you will learn to drive a "proper" train, over some nice routes...Being nosey at night passing peoples houses...not that I'm a perv....
Though I enjoy my depot and the guys and girls are a laugh, my best years will always be on the freight.

I wish you all good luck.
