Well done mate. That's a pretty quick turnaround for your results, I took both tests yesterday so hopefully hear back next week sometime. I was thinking we'd be lucky to hear back this year lol

The stages are as follows:

Online questionnaire - This stage will involve you completing an online questionnaire as part of this website. You will need to answer some questions about how you like to work, what you know about the driver role and how you would manage different situations. If you are successful through the online questionnaire you will then be invited to complete the online testing.

Online testing - For this stage we will email you a web link to complete two tests online. The Visual Search Exercise (VSE) will take you around 60 minutes and the Situational Judgement Test (SJT) will take a further 60 minutes. Both tests will be scored and if you meet the required standard then you will be invited to attend the stage 1 testing.

Stage 1 testing: Paper and pencil tests - At this stage you will be asked to complete a range of psychometric tests that will assess your skills and abilities that are required for the role of train driving with Freightliner. These will be the Group Bourdon and Tea-Occ which assesses attention, the TRP1 and TRP2 test which is a trainability test, and the DFFT which looks at fault finding. After the assessment we will score up your tests and if you meet the standard that we are looking for you then will be invited to attend the stage 2 testing.

Stage 2 testing: Computer based tests and MMI interview – At this stage you will be asked to complete a number of computer based tests - WAFV vigilance exercise, ATAVT perception test, 2-Hand co-ordination test, the RSSB Situational Judgement Test (SJT), MMI interview. Again these will be scored by our assessors after the assessment day and if you meet the Freightliner standard then we will invite you to attend the manager interview.

Manager Interview - This is your opportunity to tell us more about you and why you’re suitable for the role. You will also be asked to give strong examples of how you’ve dealt with various situations. If you are successful through the manager interview then we will be delighted to offer you a Shunter Driver / Trainee Train Driver position. This is subject to a satisfactory medical and reference check.

Medical - You will be asked to attend a medical with our Occupational Health Team where a comprehensive check will be undertaken to assess your fitness to perform the Trainee Train Driver role. A drugs and alcohol test will also be undertaken.

Reference and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks - We will ask you to provide references that will be verified. We will also ask you to complete a DBS form that will then be checked with the relevant statutory authorities.

The selection process could take up to 6 months

Does anyone know how much of the above I’ll have to redo given that I’ve already succeeded at every stage with FL before (apart from gaining employment) within the last 18 months?

just a bit worried that others seem to be progressing and I’ve heard nothing apart from an acknowledgement of my application.

I wonder if they're doing it certain depots at a time, anyone applied for Crewe heard back?

Also, I thought testing results were valid for 5 years.

I’ve applied to Crewe. Only had an acknowledgement.

You won't have to redo any or the testing if you've already done them in the last 5 years and reached FL standards.

I'm pretty sure they're doing it per depot, I know a few drivers are moving from FL to WMT at Crewe soon so maybe the need is towards mid 2022 whereas other depots are more in need asap.

I’m sorry. Don’t give up, watch out for next time.

I’m expecting a rejection after the tests so I’m bracing myself. I really messed up the symbols part on the 3 part of the VSE.

Any idea of how you did? I think I missed 16 symbols and 3 track errors :/ what’s annoying is that I was consistently scoring 100% on the traineedriver programme (which is similar but I’d say harder on the symbol part as it’s not as clearly set out as the real thing, but easier on the track part as it only ever skips a stop, it doesn’t change colour/have two trains appear/have a random half circle train). Waiting game now.

Didn’t get that many if I remember rightly, was about 4 symbols and 2 track errors. I find the SJE is the big killer...

I feel more confident about the SJT but with a few people saying how little errors they got, I think I’m a goner for this round. Good luck however!!
