When? Looks like i'm one who had theirs from the last group but didn't get a start date. Hope this is a good sign!

You passed the medical so you are just waiting on an offer for January, without a doubt.

how long did it take for you to get your medical results?

They knew the results 2 days later

Does anyone starting on Monday know roughly how long we'll be in Crewe for?

1 week induction pts etc
1 week front ends at your depot
6 weeks rules
2 weeks traction, part a test at the end
Then back to depot for part b

That's what we had on last course so they could of changed it.

Thanks, that's helpful.

What do you mean by front ends? Is that the train handling part?

Also, what does part b consist of?

Sorry if I sound dense, it's just that I've read so many conflicting things over the last few months and it's all a bit confusing for the uninitiated!

Bunch of paperwork (questionairse)Urine sample first. Nurse takes Blood pressure, pulse, peak flow, ECG, height and weight, hearing test. And then the doctor has a check of you and gives you the ok. All in it took about 2 hours for me but there was only the one doctor and 2 nurses taking people through. Most of the other people there were wanting to get a medical to work off sore

No treadmill then? :D

The medical is something of an unknown I guess, speaking to one driver manager who did warn me (years ago) that it wasn't something you should overlook really as it was quite stringent. But it's not like you can revise?

That said, I could live a bit healthier so who knows!

Now that you mention it I could hear a treadmill but they didn't put me on one. The doctor did a couple of basic movement tests but nothing fitness related

Front ends you go out with a driver and just watch really you have a book to tick things off like signals, speed restrictions etc

Part a you just prep an engine and answer a few questions about Loco nothing hard

Part b I just shunted an engine in the yard pass both and your.money goes up then

Good luck to all starting next week, and those who have medicals, and even those still waiting for a medical (me included).

During the questionnaire, do they ask for your doctors details in order to make contact? My doctor only works part-time and is on a long holiday at the moment.

They need your doctors details and want permission to contact them but I can imagine they wont contact your doctor unless they see a reason to

Front end turns, as has been already explained, is for you to ride with the driver, enabling you to observe first hand the operation of a freight train, it also give you a chance to ask questions about the role of a driver, I would suggest you take full advantage of this time to askas many questions as you can, your Mentor Driver is there to help you through this process. Hope this helps

For those who are starting on the 22nd, is anyone els having to relocate?

Andy, I'm moving from South Wales down to Eastleigh for mine. Probably going to chat to HR and see where the land lies, so to speak. And you mate?
