Freightliner have enquired if the Hamworthy branch is available for possible weekend out berthing of container flats. Down Saturdays return Monday as per trips on the Fawley Branch. Its not known whether it is in addition to the Fawley branch trips or if it is because of forthcoming engineering works. Either way its an interesting development. Its not yet been confirmed if this will happen As some people will know there used to be a Freightliner flow back in the BR days from the late 70's to early mid 80's from the Hamworthy branch. In fact I do have a few photos that have been sent to me of work taking place of the installation of a container lifting hoist at the docks around the 1970's. Also there are 150+ various 40ft containers that have been appearing stacked up to 4 & 5 high on the the Quay and within the docks itself. An enquiry to the security peeps at Poole docks did not turn up much info but further investigations have found out that these containers are coming down form all parts of the country for storage and then shipping via coastal ship to Ireland. Apparently there is a world shortage of 40ft containers.

Anyhoo just thought I would mention it :)
