Been away for a couple of weeks. Travelled back from Birmingham International to Stafford this evening.

In Stafford at about 6.45pm, there was a Freightliner wagon train with a Class 197 DMU (?) marshalled in the middle of the consist.

What was happening there then? (Sorry if I missed something whilst away).

It was 197019 being moved from Wolverton Works to Crewe Basford Hall.

Two of Freightliners ex coal hopper wagons have been converted and have the couplings fitted to couple up to the unit. Any other wagons are in the train to add brake force.

On some movements you'll see a loco on both ends as the units being moved have a braking system that's not compatible with the locos so they run an air pipe though the train to connect the two locos together.
