I have read that three class 90's are on hire to Serco to work the sleeper for the time being, in place of the 92's.

I am happy about this as I've seen a photo of one of these 90's on the sleeper and it was 90042.
My last 90 for sight.
I'll be in London over the weekend and am thinking of getting out to see the departure and arrival of the sleepers at Euston to see if I get lucky.

Is it really just the same three 90's?
If so that's a one in three shot of getting that elusive Skoda.

There is currently 3 Freightliner class 90's on hire: 90042, 90044 & 90048.

This is as of 9:30 am today and they can change at any time.

I motored to York last night(18th) to watch and photo the Kings Cross-Highland sleeper before being returned to the West Coast. Arriving at 00:09 for a timetabled pass at 0:30 I thought I was in plenty of time but after waiting until 01:40 there was no sign of it.

Can anyone throw any light on a no show please?

I'm surprised that Freightliner didn't commit the cardinal sin of removing ETS capability on their class 90s, like they allegedly did on their class 86s, rendering them (potentially) unusable for spot hire to passenger operators. Or maybe that was EWS.

Freightliner did remove ETS jumper cables from their class 90s except one or two. They have since replaced the jumpers

I can now answer my own question having found the correct RTT time sheet.
1S25 passed York 00:06, 24 minutes early!! I missed it by 3 minutes.

Not quite. It was BR (as Railfreight Distribution) that removed the jumpers on 90025-50, restricted them to 75mph and renumbered them 90125-150. EWS and Freightliner have reversed those mods over time since privatisation.

Yes you are right. I thought it was branded Freightliner before privatisation when the 90s were delivered in '89/90.

I enquired about having a class 90 on a railtour in 1994 and there was only one non InterCity or RES 90 with ETS

Should have been more than that! RfD's 90021-024 always had ETH, I think because they could then hire them to InterCity!
