Freight trains through Sitges

Hi all.

I’m lucky enough to be spending three months near Sitges. I’ve been regularly in this area for 14 years but this is the first summer that I’ve seen multiple freight trains passing through each day. Previously I’d only seen freight west of Sant Vicenç de Calders. Not that I’m complaining.

Does anyone know the reason why?

The Google English translation says that the they're doing work on the inland route via Vilafranca with the tunnel at Matorell being closed. This has led to the diversion of the freight along the coast line through Sitges.
