Freight Container Costs?

Folks,
When companies use Rail Freight to transport their goods,from Say Scotland to England or vice versa is there a minimum amount of containers they must supply for the journey.

What l mean is sometimes a freight load has many containers on its load and sometimes one or two,with the smaller load can the freight company make a profit,how does it work?

No, but usually the more containers a haulier can move the cheaper it becomes.

Depends on the train/contract. If the whole train is contractd to a single haulier (eg MSC, Kline, Maersk etc) then it is the hauliers responsibility for the volume and as such, the railfreight company will get paid the same amount whether there is one container load or 50.

If the train is an open train then its the railfreight company that drums up the buisness and will only make a profit once a certain amount of containers are loaded. The number depends on factors such as distances and resources, but an open train with one or two containers won't make a profit full stop.

I was informed that the most lucrative liner trains is the dailt Felixstowe to Hams Hall operated by GBRf in behalf of Medite. Such is the popularity that an additional daily service was added. I used to pass the Midlands bound service at Witham around 12.20 & cannot remember a day when it wasnt fully loaded.

Yes thats right. The MSC contract trains are always booked to capacity, allthough these days it doesn't mean they will all get loaded at Felixstowe.
