Those who live in London of a certain age have use of the Train/Tube/Bus Freedom pass which enables free travel in the "LT" travel zones, certain parts excepted, with various time restrictions for use on Network Rail.

You can using this pass to ask, for say, a return from London to Southampton, from the Boundary of Zone 6 after 9.30 at a booking office.

No ticket machines offer this ability to book from Zone 6 and it is not available from the various ticket booking websites.

As we are losing more and more booking offices the ability to book this option may be lost or difficult to access.

Any ideas as why the option does not appear on ticket machines etc other than it will create more confusion in a complicated system?

Thanks.

This isn't a Freedom Pass issue. The same applies when using a zonal Travelcard. (You might want to change the thread title to 'Buying Boundary Zone 6 tickets' or similar

This thread (https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/buying-boundary-zone-tickets-online.132910/) from 2016 might help. It suggests that GTR ticket machines (Great Northern, Thameslink, Southern) will allow you to buy Boundary Zone 6 to wherever tickets.

It also suggests that SWT (now South Western Railway, SWR) priced their Boundary Zone 6 tickets at the same price as the final 'in-zone' station. Thus meaning there was no financial penalty for buying a Surbiton-Southampton ticket as opposed to a Boundary Zone 6-Southampton ticket.

Thank you transmanche. Have used a TfL machine today and found the appropriate options.
