Hello to Everyone!

I'm rare user of the forum, so if it is a wrong part of forum, please just transfer this thread to the other and sorry in advance.

If there is anyone who wants to travel on Heathrow Express Class 332 between Paddington and Heathrow Airport (and back) - there will be free travels for 2 hours only on Monday, 16 January. The times are still not confirmed, but it should be 12 pm - 2 pm.

Blue Monday is coming, HEX wants to make this day nicer to customers. This is due to new way of advertisement and start of new campaign.

If anyone intrested in, let me know, I can update it tomorrow.

No, it's all about Heathrow Express, not Connect. What's more, update I received today is that it will be ONLY TO HEATHROW, not to Paddington. So only in one direction. It should be 12pm - 2pm, but... it will be confirmed tomorrow.

Typical, I'm only going one-way today & that's TO Paddington

Service will probably go down the toilet anyway, last week was a fatality at Ealing. But I've never heard of blue mondays

It's another idiotic sales ploy we have imported from the US. There are quite a few 'Blue Monday' offers about at tourist attractions too.

Confirmed - from Paddington, 12pm - 2pm, only Heathrow Express. Enjoy, who wants to travel on board.

Well, I suppose I'm a wee bit cynical, but I see this as a carefully thought out bit of marketing, done presumably at a time when it won't hit the bottom line very much.

Had they offered it the other way, I'm sure their trains would have been filled to the gunwhales.

It's actually more of a pseudoscientific description of "the most depressing day of the year" in the northern hemisphere.

It's a combination of distance from next payday combined with a lack of cash due to Christmas and the dreary weather.

Complete poppycock, but it's lapped up by type of people whose Twitter picture involves "pouting", and timeline contains copious moaning about actually needing to work for their wages.

Personally, I quite like January.

True, their employees would have amazing possiblity to convert big number of customers to try Express trains instead of other types of transport. In this case, they will only reward existing customers, who are travelling with them anyway.

Free travel for only two hours in the middle of the day and one way only - big bloody deal given the millions they must rake in with their extortionate fares.

ha! Nope, "Blue Monday" is a british fiction born and bred. But of marketing. history is here.

It is an absolute nonsense.

Most of these things whether "blue Monday" or "black Friday" are subtle (or not so subtle) marketing devices to get people to part with cash. You can bet your bottom dollar some advertising outfit is behind it somewhere.

To be fair it worked a treat for me - saved me 15 sheets - and I got to have a chuckle at Carol Vorderman pretending to be interested in people traveling to LHR whilst milling about at Paddington.

The less said about the young lady who boarded my carriage only to work out that it wasn't a train to Stansted, the better!!

So much cynicism and raspberry-blowing about a train company giving out free travel.

This is why you don't get to have nice things. :)

Hmm, already saved thousands of pounds for houndreds of customers.
Millions? Yes, you are right. Company rake in millions of pounds every year, serving millions of customers every year as well, with (about) 150 train rides every day (with service every 15 mins) - and giving job to hundreds of employees, managing three train stations and maintaining all their train sets.

Yeah, right, it must be millions they are raking in after all costs they are making. I forgot running trains costs nothing.

It's more for the people who get paid at the end of the month, however as an "act of kindness" (or "the pay office wants to go on holiday") some are paid early in December (for example the 21st December).

Some people don't plan money that well and splash out massively over the festive period, with the credit card bills starting to arrive on the doorsteps/email inboxes detailing their overspending.

Round about 2040?:)

Just this Sunday, when I changed at Cambridge from Kings Lynn service to Stansted service, one guy boarding after me asked "Is it to Stansted?" two seating guys stand up and left train saying "It's not to Kings Lynn?!" :D

At Norwich there are direct trains to both London Liverpool Street and Liverpool Lime Street.

The ones to Liverpool Lime Street are shown as "Lime Street Liverpool" on the departure screens, but I wonder how many people get on the wrong train.

Lots of the East Mids guards do great announcements a couple of mins before departure saying "If you are going to London you are on the WRONG train. Please go to platform 2". It's very funny to then watch the scramble & for those with ear phones in or yakking on their phone, then the entertainment is yet to happen

Cambridge always amuses me when the 8-car service from Kings Cross arrives - front 4 cars continue to Kings Lynn, the rear 4 go back to Kings Cross. Cue mass panic by many passengers as they get their Kings mixed up :D
