Hi, I am starting my training as a conductor for Northen on Monday but I still haven't received my travel pass which I sent off for 3 weeks ago. If I take my contract with me, do you think this will be okay to show instead of buying tickets and claiming the money back? Thanks

Hi, at my TOC we issue temporary passes from day one (and a letter for the first day). You only apply once you have your induction. It know it doesn’t specifically help you now, but I’d assume if you haven’t received your passes by the time you start, you’ll be issued a temporary one.

I'd be very cautious about trying that...

If you're travelling on Northern services I'd have your letter telling you where to be for your first day's training with you (I'm sure you would anyway) the be friendly with any staff you come across, after all they are your fellow colleagues from your first day. 99% of the railway family is a very friendly helpful bunch so don't worry!

Buy your ticket they will reimburse you.
Tell your trainer Monday morning and they will issue a temporary pass

If you are training in Leeds then HR are upstairs in the same building, and your trainer should be able to get your pass sorted straight away. When I started I took my application in with me and get my permanent pass the same day.

Hi, You are in the same position I was 2 months ago I too have recently started with Northern as a Trainee Conductor and never had a travel pass before starting, I bought a ticket for my first day and then claimed it back via an expenses form and it was put in my first months pay. On the first day you will likely be given a temporary pass that you can use until your pass arrives. Just keep your tickets or get a receipt tomorrow morning.

Best of luck!
