Free travel on ScotRail

I wonder if any ScotRail employees can help.

My gaffer advises me that Arriva Trains Wales employees are entitled to free travel on ScotRail services. Now I find this a little difficult to believe seeing as the two companies do not share a common parent company.

I will be in Scotland during May and I don't want to buy a ticket for an Edinburgh - Inverness trip that I intend to take if I don't have to but also I don't want to embarrass myself by travelling without a ticket when actually I need one!!

I'd appreciate any advice.

I cannot say I have ever heard of this arrangement. I take it you are a TOCNE?

Newish to passenger work but a fair few years on freight. Service not quite long enough to be protected though. :cry:

I doubt it. I'm an FGW employee and I don't get free travel on Scotrail. (Except 10 First boxes a year).

Your Edinburgh - Inverness ticket would obviously be outside the Glasgow network area so hopefully the 75% discount would apply. Checking with Scotrail would be best for confirmation!

I doubt it. I'm an FGW employee and I don't get free travel on Scotrail. (Except 10 First boxes a year).

Same applies for me when I travel with FGW, FSR or FTPE although travelling at the weekends with East Coast is advantageous as it's free

Am not sure of the relevance of the Strathclyde PTE info in the ATOC document, as this link (http://www.spt.co.uk/rail/index.aspx), among others, states that SPT is no longer involved in the everyday operation of the rail network. One of the reasons for the removal of the old SPT livery from trains.

Certainly best to check with ScotRail.

The restriction still exists nonetheless, though there is talk of removing it at the next issue of ATOC travel cards. It doesn't affect the OP's intended journey in any case however.

Only first group staff get free travel on Scotrail in the form of "boxes" (had my new ones a couple of weeks ago!), and obviously scotrail staff get free travel!
