Residents within the Perth & Kinross Council area will be able to enjoy free bus travel on the first Saturday of every month as part of a new initiative from 1 June. The initiative, which will last for a year, was agreed as councillors set out the Council’s 2024/25 budget and agreed to allocate £120,000 for the scheme. They also agreed an investment of £325,000 over three years to develop a business case for ‘new models’ of public transport.

Free travel will be available on services operated by Stagecoach East Scotland, Docherty’s Midland Coaches, Elizabeth Yule, Sweeney’s Garage and Glenfarg Community Transport Group.

There's potential for some interesting days out there, but while the article clearly says it's for residents within the PKC area, it doesn't mention how operators are going to be able to distinguish between a resident and a non-resident.

As it has been running since the beginning of the month, has anyone taken advantage of this already?

The article later quotes a councilor saying:

So I suspect it is indeed free to anyone.

Thanks, both - I didn't think they'd be able to make it residents only.

The initiative seems to have been kept awfy quiet, though - it seems to have escaped the attention of regular posters on here for starters. Maybe the council is hoping that not too many people take up the offer!
