Free seat choice only on VTWC site?

There's a number of connections that are only bookable on other platforms such as Rail Easy, VTEC or TPE.

For example, one I regularly use is Glasgow Central to Workington on the 17:30 EUS service. I can't get it to ever appear on VTWC site, so I use TPE and enter avoid "Lockerbie" in the box and it shows up fine. The disadvantage is that its not possible to choose a seat on TPE. This trick doesn't work on VTWC and results in SR services only.

Its a great pity they aren't reservable on VTWC because of the loss of seat choice and Virgin Atlantic miles.

Does anyone know a workaround to make the VTWC show this connection or another platform that allows seat selection in the seatmap style?

If you start on National Rail Enquiries, and use the Advanced Options to specify travel using Virgin Trains, you get offered the 1740 VTWC departure from Glasgow and can click through to book on VTWC. If you use NRE's extra interchange time option you end up with too much time at Carlisle for either the 1730 or 1740 to be offered. And on NRE "avoid Lockerbie" means don't travel via Lockerbie, not simply don't stop there.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't want the 17:40, I want the 17:30. Is there some way to get this using the NRE method to then book with VTWC website?

There's no issues to book the 17:40 on the VTWC directly.

If you have such specific requirements I would suggest popping round your local staffed station who will be happy to accommodate them.

VTWC have changed seat reservations for me in the past via twitter when booked via works online booking system. If you DM them asking for what you want changed along with a picture of your ticket and original seat reservation they will usually change it for you.

Is there a significant difference in price by booking both separately?
