Does anyone know where there are any freeware flight sims available? I don't want a link for the one available for BVE, but would like to know.

A standalone flight sim, where you can download it and fly planes. something like BVE

Lost!
I have tried Flightgear but failed to launch the plane with the keyboard. You need a Joystick to really enjoy the game.

Same here, also FlightGear doesn't like my graphics card (not enough VRAM in it) :|

Hard to come across really unless you see a few PDA style games..

If you want a good one then MSFS with a couple of addons but again that adds to ££££s

I did see one for the PDA before and worked well on the PC. Can't remember the name.

cheers for all this people. i have downloaded flightgear but when i went to install it, it said that there was nothing in there at all. I will try the link mbonwick put up. London BVE, i also have a joystick which i use in BVE and for one of my flight games. I'm not sure if you've heard of it, SAR4 (search And Rescue 4). but you only get to fly helicopters

Sounds like you need to re-download the installer, as it is corrupt.

I have tried a demo of SAR4, but it kept crashing and the reviews I read on it weren't great, so I didn't buy it ;)

It's not free, but X Plane is very good. It's got the realism of Flight Gear though, but the graphics are closer to MSFS. There are loads of great free add ons to it aswell. The only downside really is the scenary is not brilliant. North America has very good terrain, the rest of the world is more basic but still good (better IMHO than Flightgear anyway), but without having add ons the world is very empty, and whilst airports have accurate Runways, Taxiways and Aprons, they mostly lack buildings. There are some great scenary packages available though, many of them free (or cheap payware), but they are quite limited in numbers, and only tend to cover major airports. There are many planes available though, both freeware or cheap payware (e.g a couple of pounds for a plane with many livery varients). To be honest, that was what drew me to it over Flightgear, which is relativly limited in terms of planes (especially big commercial stuff), and many of them are very out of date, plus most only have one livery (X Plane seems to have a much bigger base of active add on developers, which is an advantage, plus the fact that is does allow payware add ons).

Thanks for all your help people. I've got flightgear installed, and I've been playing on it for the past few days. I think that I may invest my money into MSFS (MS Flight Sim) 2004 or X. But I need to do a lot of work to my computer first, as it's really slow, and bad.

I take it C is your windows directory?
RAM will need upgrading, get a 512MB or a 1GB stick (type of RAM will depend on your motherboard - consult your PC's documentation if you are unsure or alternatively, use Belarc Advisor)

Processor will just about do, my 2GHz only just copes with BVE

Finally, unless you are confident and KNOW HOW TO DO THE UPGRADES, get a professional to do them for you!

ok thanks for that. I've checked the specs with one of my mates, whos got Flight Sim 2004, and It'll run fine on my computer, without upgrades! tomorrow morning, I'm getting it. As for Flightgear, I will still play on it, as I've finally got the game hooked up to my joystick, so I got easy take offs
