Free Amazon locker collection for low value items

Since when did Amazon offer free delivery to lockers to non Prime members even when the value is under £20?

Are they trying to encourage locker collection over delivery? If this is a long term deal, it might be worth some Prime members to cancel their subscription if they only use it for free delivery.

Might addressing this question to amazon not garner better results?

I suspect most people pay for prime for the streaming service and other services not just free delivery

The thing is, it is not really advertised. There is just a bit of text in the description:

"Note: This item is eligible for FREE Click and Collect without a minimum order subject to availability."

I suspect, like everything they do, there's some complex data analysis going on in the background.

It would make sense that if a prime member has already ordered an item to a specific locker, that any further orders from other customers to be collected on the same day from the same locker may also be offered free delivery, as someone is already visiting the locker.

They might decide to offer free delivery as a perk, as you've been looking at something for a while but not buying it etc...

I'm sure they have a logic to what they do, but I doubt they'll be willing to share it.
