France: Rural bus query

I am looking at a Sunday rural bus service in France. There is a timetable (of 3 scheduled journeys per Sunday) but you have to ring to reserve before 5pm on Friday.

I want to make a journey in both directions but I might not need to use the bus or both directions as I have a possible lift and possible blablacar option.

Are there known to be penalties for reserving and not then turning up? There isn't anything mentioned in the terms.

That will depend on what region/operator/service. Impossible to tell without. if you are willing to share details, please also share via what site you found it-most of the new large regions now have some kind of ´transports public´ section on their own sites.
But most likely the ´fine´ will be to have to pay the normal fare anyway, even if not using it. And most of such fares are just a very few €
Looks to me there should be a fone nr-even just the one you have to use to reserve-in case of things like delay/changed plans etc.

Thank you for your reply. Not sure it's wise to share which service it is in case I decide to use some dark arts!

I travelled on the service and the driver said that there had been a couple of no-shows, and gave the impression that there would be no penalty for them.

Currently there's no way to see whether other passengers have reserved, so I wonder whether there is a way of setting something up so passengers can share that they have reserved. Maybe Whatsapp? Twitter? Facebook? Do you know how other services do it?
