I spent a few days Southern France in September. Among a lot of fine dining and sightseeing I managed to grab some railway impressions as well. Enjoy this little collection from Marseille, Sète, Perpignan, Nice and Valence.
En route to Marseille my TGV hat to stop on a bridge just outside of Avignon TGV station. So I could enjoy the view over the Rhône valley unto Avignon. So my holiday was off to a good start

Sète
My trip to Sète was shorter than planned because my Intercité got a 90min delay when unattended luggage was found in Nîmes station and my train had to wait in Arles until the police had looked into the situation.

Perpignan
Perpignan is located close to the Spanish border. A lot of signs are bi-lingual: French and Catalan

In the city centre a lot small street and passage way. Well hidden within: The Cathedral

Perpignan is worth a visit.

In Nice the first section of the new tram line T2 is in service. The line has no overhead wires, but uses trains with batteries. The batteries get recharged when the tram calls at a stop. Tram in the outside

Currently, there is no interchange between line 2 (Terminates at Magnan) and line 1. The network map in the tram shows the future connection

A lot of speed indicator looked like this. I guess in the future the tram will run faster. It seemed pretty slow at the moment
As terminus CADAM a new depot is build below/next to a parking garage

When all section are open line 2 will terminate in the old port. Most of the boats there are above may pay grade
Valence (TGV)
Many TGV stations along French high-speed line do not have connections to regional rail service (usually only big car parks and maybe bus connections). Valence TGV is among the few exceptions. It has two levels: On the lower level are the TGV platform and on the upper level the platform for the regional TER trains.

An AVE leaves the station. On the sight the tracks towards Annecy and Grenoble and on the left the tracks to Valence-Ville
Thanks to a lot of glass the station is very bright. The SNCF was testing a new kind of seating and was asking for feedback
A Ouigo passes without stopping
This Ouigo has called at Valence TGV and will now join the LGV again
