It is quite a way isn't it (I just looked on the map, 58 miles).
Still it's a lot nearer than here. I'd like to cover all our preserved railways at some point. Probably done about a third of them so far although they keep getting extended of course.
I did the GCR(N) a few years ago (50007 one way and 37075 the other) which was pretty cool. It's the Northern ones I need the most now. Pretty much everything north of The Midland Railway Centre.
Fair enough. I haven't been on many preserved railways north of the MRC either (the NYMR and KWVR are the only ones that spring to mind at the moment, but there's bound to be others). That's because Pres lines are only really used for day trips for me, and many of the northern ones are just too far to drive for a day trundling along at 25mph.

The local ones

The 12th of April 2017 was a Wednesday, and the day that Nat and I had decided to go for a cat bash due to there being bargain advances from Brum to Marylebone and back for the two of us. I booked these online and had picked them up on a previous trip so, by the time we picked Nat up at 05:50 on the Wednesday morning; we were all ready for the day except tickets to get to Brum.

We'd soon got to Leam and walked to the stations, Nat getting a bus number on the way; he's gone over to the dark side, but for stagecoach buses only. Oh, and certain lorries too. I know: he's crazy. Anyway, enough about boring you all about rubbish road transport. To the railways. We got the tickets to Brum and headed up onto platform 2. The 06:24 to Brum was soon arriving, with 165004 on this morning. I was pleased to see it, because Nat didn't believe me that it looked different on one of the two front ends to the other ones, so I wanted to show him. It was the rear coach of the unit that had a slightly different paint job on the front end so I'd have to remember to show him at Snow Hill. I've attached a photo of it from a future trip, and another of a 'normal' Chiltern 165 to show you the difference (there's a bit of white paint on the front of 165004 that isn't there on the others).

Anyway, enough about 165s. The journey to Brum went smoothly and we were soon getting to Snow Hell. Nat had mentioned seeing a graffitied 168 in Moor Street sidings before arrival, so I was hoping to see that when we came back out.

We immediately left the station and headed over to the square peg Wetherspoon for brekky. As usual, dad and I went for pancakes with Nat going for a hot choc. Brekky was great as usual and we had a good chat before having to head our separate ways, Nat and I to Snow Hell, dad to work. We got to Snow Hell before our next service, so we could get down to the far end to ID the cat before boarding - it was dud for 1000 68011. This set my mind to rest, because I knew that it'd be this or 13, the latter being preferred due to it's required for 1000 status. There'd been swaps the night before, so I wasn't sure what'd happen.

Nat was right about there being a graffitied unit in Moor Street sidings, but not a 168 - a 170 (well, a 168/3, but that's just a 170). It was completely covered and I just managed to get a photo before the battery on my camera died - typical!

The journey to Banbury went smoothly, seeing no fewer than 4 locos between Leam and Banbury, with a further one coming through Banbury while we were there. I showed Nat the spot that I always stand on to watch a cat leave Banbury towards Marylebone, a particular point under the footbridge, and custard was deafening before it came under the footbridge. Oh my life this class is amazing!

After a wait at the station we could see the 09:00 Marylebone arriving, which would be our traction to Bicester. I was pleased to see 168107 on this one, my favourite 168. Why? Easy. I like 168/1s far more than any other subclass of them, so it'd be one of those. I dislike 3 car units and prefer the 4 car ones because they have more capacity (obviously), and I simply prefer 107 to 106, which is my second favourite. Anyway, Nat and I managed to get seats for the 14-mile journey and we were soon arriving at Bicester. Our service back towards Banbury was running slightly late, so we got in the warm of the waiting room before emerging to get onto the approaching cat. After much screeching and trying to attack us, we finally managed to get on board the common house cat for the run home. No, sorry, wrong cat. There was no screeching from 68013 this morning and we got on board with no problems, selecting a bay of 4 for the ride back towards Birmingham.

I found out later on that the cats were running to exactly the same diagrams as the day before due to problems, but I was completely fine with this as it meant that I got hairball for the long run instead of custard.

The run through to Brum was uneventful, and we'd soon arrived on platform 4. Dad had decided that he wouldn't come down to Leam with us, and then back on the 11:25 cat as he'd been thinking of doing before neither 68013 or 68011 was needed for 1000 for him, so it was certainly a surprise when Nat pointed him out walking down the platform towards the DVT. Ihad no idea what he was doing, so jumped off and ran down the platform to him, finding out that he had decided to join us...

... But thought that we were on the service back from Leam and not this one due to 'not thinking'. It's lucky Nat noticed him! He came back down to our bay of 4 win the back coach and it was a soche ride to Leam, where dad bailed for 68011 back to Brum. Nat and I stayed on for the ride through the Chilterns. Unfortunately we had to go through the most dangerous stretch of track in the country to get there. Why is the bit from Bicester to Princes Risborough so dangerous? It's so boring you need to try hard not to cut your wrists with a blunt knife ;).

West Ruislip provided some hellfire traction for us. 4 bombs, the ones currently being used for the S stock movements (311, 314, 096 and 107) were sat in the yard. The blue two are also my favourite class 20s, having had the brilliant run from Donny to New Street on them back in 2015, so it was good to see them again. After that it was Wembley yard, which was home to a few cats, and then through to tunnels to arrive at Marylebone.

We bailed at Marylebone and exited the platforms, heading to M&S to get some cakes. There was a 2 for £4.50 deal on the tubs of mini cakes, something I've had several times before an loved, so we got a couple of those and split the cost. It was then back over to 68013, getting a bay of 4 in the front coach for the ride back to Birmingham, leaving Marylebone on time at 13:10.

It was a fun, thrashy ride through to Birmingham, with Hairball passing the 1000-mile mark between Banbury and Leamington. We were soon back on my most traveled section of track, Leam to Brum, and we had soon arrived at Moor Street.

I'd arranged to meet up with dad at the office at 15:30, so we had time to do a Snow Hell leap beforehand. Superduds 172211 and 172339 were on the first available through the tunnel, so they were taken through to Snow Hell. We then headed over to platform 3, as the 15:12 to Marylebone was strangely departing from that platform today. The 15:07 service to Whitlocks End, a 172 that departs before it, was currently in platform 2 but was a superdud, where the sad excuse for a 168 wasn't. 168005/3 was a hybrid. 3 coaches were from 168005, and the other from 168003, but the unit carried both unit numbers. Still, due to there being more coaches from 168005, that's what I claimed the mileage from. We got on board the unit that looked like it'd fail any moment. The engines weren't powering from what I heard, the display on the front of the unit knackered, all the lights flickering and, before departure, the doors were being annoying. I was therefore very surprised when I heard that it wasn't us that had broken down, but the 172 in the other platform! Wow!

Back at Moor Street, it was 172219 and 172220 that took us back to Snow Hell, where it was time to meet dad. We had 10 minutes to walk over, which was ample time, and Nat commented that he'd never been to the office before, despite him having come multiple times before. I pointed this out, but he was still adamant that he'd never been. Goldfish memory...

Dad came out a few minutes later than planned, and we wandered over to Moor Street, where I got my water bottle filled up and dad got a coffee. When then headed back over to 68013 and were soon on the move. Dad, who had an appointment for something in Leam, bailed there. This appointment would take about an hour and a half, so there was ample time for Nat and I to go through to Banbury and back on another cat, so that's what we did. 68013 was sounding hellfire leaving Banbury, but not as much as 11 was earlier in the day!

Nat wanted to wait up on the footbridge during the fester, which is also the concourse. I wanted to wait on the platforms though, so we each split up. That was until I went back up onto the footbridge to tell Nat that I'd found a comfy, warm place to wait before departure of our cat. What was it? The 1st class area of 166221! We weren't travelling in it, so, in my opinion from reading the poster, we were perfectly entitled to wait in there with our standard tickets. It was a fairly comfy place to wait, and we stayed in the unit until 68012 was arriving.

We managed to get a bay of 2 on board and I got a text from dad in the Leam area confirming that we could go through to Warwick Parkway on this, so that's what we did. Then, after watching it leave Warwick Parkway, we changed platforms to get on the 17:36 back to Leam, which was running a few minutes late. Unfortunately it was a /0, but 168001 did the job of getting us back to Leam... adequately. From there it was simply out of the station and back to the car, getting there just after dad. Then it was homeward, dropping Nat off en route after a great day with another cat cleared for 1000.

I fail to see how you justified sitting in the First Class section of the 166 to wait for your train!

I just don't know how you survive the dullness of the Chiltern line either, I prefer flying at full pelt up the WCML!

20096 and 20107 are certainly hellfire! I had them Edinburgh to Inverness via Aberdeen and boy did they perform!

I agree with Tech regarding the first class area of the 166 too.

Sounds like a good day trundling around on the 68s and the slightly hilarious sounding 168 that gives the impression of being held together with crisp packets and paperclips.

Don't push your luck with sitting in First Class on units even if you're not going anywhere though.

There was some sort of sign before entering 1st class that said something like passengers travelling on this train with standard class tickets are not permitted in this area. We weren't travelling on that train, so it didn't apply to us. That and the fact that the chance of a check was stupidly low - it's a DOO service with no GWR RPI anywhere in sight, and we hadn't even left the station.

You wouldn't be on anything vaguely good if you were on the WCML though ;)

I can see you getting a PF for using First Class on a 166 like that again, whether you're not actually travelling on it or not. By taking a seat in that train in that accommodation, it would be only reasonable for revenue staff to assume you intended to travel in it later. I genuinely can't see them happily agreeing to your point of view!

That would be akin to the idea I could sit in First Class on a 390 at Manchester Piccadilly before I join a 175 heading home. I might not be travelling, but I would be taking a space on the train as if I intended to travel.

You've reminded me however I still haven't tried the First Class lounge at Piccadilly, now that's something to aim for in Q3...

The chilton line is only really good if its the motive power of a cat and a luxurious MK3. Otherwise Its sleap inducingly dull

I suppose that sounds fair. I won't do it again (it'll be the declassified 1st class on a 166 next time).

The 1st class lounge at Mancc is brilliant - try it :)

There's no ranger/rover, but if you book far enough in advance on the 10:55 Moor Street to Marylebone and 13:10 back, you can get ones for £5.50 each way.

The majority are here: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1478545&postcount=4

That's only the case for the next two days but, as far as I know, the only change will be the 10:40 from Marylebone to Snow Hell and 13:12 back becoming a 68.

Bad Friday

I've never understood why Good Friday, the Friday before Easter Sunday, was called Good Friday. It just creeps up on you and bounces out to say boo whenever you make a plan around a non bank holiday. That's exactly what happened on this day. Mum had arranged to meet up with a friend in Sheffield on a weekday between Monday the 10th and Friday the 14th of April. It was actually cheaper for me to go along with her so we decided to that. This ruled out the Wednesday because I had advance tickets to Marylebone for a cat bash. I then thought of something. There's a Fridays only tram from Edinburgh to Plymouth at 13:08, which we could get from Sheffield back to New Street to avoid a 222 and 170. We'd also be able to get the 09:58 cat from Leam to Moor Street, giving me some pretty good loco mileage on the trip. When I thought of this, I told mum to request the Friday to her friend. It was a week later that I found out that it was a bank holiday on this day...

When I found out I asked on the forum to check if the Edinburgh-Plymouth was still a tram, but found out that it wasn't. Now rather annoyed, I checked to see if the 09:58 to Moor Street was still a cat. When I found out that there was lots of variations on Chiltern on this date, and that the 09:58 wasn't even running, let along being a cat, I was really annoyed. Any other day in the week and I would have at least got the cat! Bad Friday certainly seems like a better name than Good Friday!

Mum and I drove down to Leam station for the 09:27 on the Friday morning. A 10 minute walk to the station was completed and we were soon getting tickets: a return to Burton and a Derbyshire Wayfarer, which I was pleased to see the ticket clerk had no trouble issuing. We then headed onto platform 2 to wait for our train.

The Manchester 221 had already gone (thankfully), so ours was the next service. Because of this, I wasn't happy to see a very busy platform, most people having a suitcase or 2 as well. This may well be a cosy journey then. Mum saw one of her friends on the platform so had a quick chat and, while that was taking place, I saw a service arriving on platform 2 before ours was due in, which completely explained why all the people were there - it was 37609 and 37259 working Pathfinder's Scottish landcruiser tour, that takes place over several days. I headed down to the end of the platform to get a few photos and watch it leave.
To Scotland by fishquinn1, on Flickr
After that I went back down the platform to mum, with less people there now, and we were soon boarding 168216, getting a bay of 4 up front.

It was an uneventful run through to Brum and we bailed at Moor Street not long later, ready for the walk across to the bat cave. We'd soon got there and a check of the departure boards revealed that the 10:19 to Nottingham was leaving from platform 10A. We headed over to it and got seats at the very front of dud 170636, which had it's lights and engine off at this point, making it rather relaxing. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, as the driver had soon appeared, and we were soon droning through the tunnels towards the East Midlands.

56303 was at Derby, but we didn't have long to see it as our 222 was soon approaching. I was hoping that winner 222008 wouldn't make me feel ill like my last experiences on them, and we got a bay of 4 on board. Unforunately this 222 had the same affect as the other ones and I started feeling bad after leaving Derby. This just got worse as the journey progressed, and mum also started to feel bad too. I gave to option of bailing at Derby to get a late running 158 forward 10 minutes later but mum just wanted to get there. After what felt like an eternity we were finally bailing at Sheffield, ready to head to the city centre.

I'd decided to treat mum to lunch, and wetherspoon was decided on because it's cheap, good quality, and easy. We walked to the same one as I'd used for the QM meet the week before, right next to Castle Square tram stop. The reason we didn't get the tram was because mum didn't have a ticket for it. We had to go past Fitzalan Square tram stop on the way and, as we got there, a tram was arriving heading towards Castle Square so I told mum to follow the tram tracks up the hill for the 5 chains between the two stops and hopped on 117, which was my last required tram until the week before. We then headed into Wetherspoon.

Lunch was my usual steak and kidney pudding with chips, peas and gravy, mum going for chili con carne. I got this, and pudding, which was American style pancakes and ice cream for me, and a cookie dough sandwich, with a salted caramel filling and ice cream on the side for mum. My reason for choosing the pancakes was basic. It was a 2 for £5 deal on puddings, so I decided that I'd get my normal brekky, and get the ice cream too, which was separate. This was a good plan but, the moment I tried mum's pudding, I regretted this and sorely hoped I went for that - it was absolutely stunning. One to remember for next time then!

Forum member Roversfan2001 was to be passing through Sheffield on his way to Nottingham at 12:37. I said that I'd try to join him if lunch didn't last a long time, but it was gone 12:40 by the time we left Wetherspoon, so that was a no. This changed when I heard that he couldn't get on the 12:37 at Manchester due to it being absolutely heaving, and that there was now major signaling problems. This meant that he'd try to get the 13:37 from Sheffield (from Manchester) so I'd be able to join him to Chesterfield, with time for a mini tram bash first. I walked mum to where she needed to be, fairly close to Cathedral tram stop, so I waited there for a tram.

The PIS screens were really taking the PIS and just said to refer to timetables on their website, so I had no idea when trams would be due, at any stop (they all showed that). Luckily it wasn't too long before 103 arrived on a Meadowhall service. Random fun fact: when I went to type Meadowhall just then I accidently typed Motherwell before realizing. That'd be quite a journey on a Sheffield supertram . I wanted to get some shacks on the Herdings/Halfway branch so I got off at Castle Square and got on 125, which was on a Herdings Park service. I knew that I didn't have too long until Roversfan's train to Notty, as he'd managed to escape the Manchester signaling problems with a delay of only a few minutes, so I decided to go and get my required shack on the Herdings Park branch, Herdings.

The Herdings Park line branches off from the Halfway one at Gleadless Townsend, and has one intermediate stop, Herdings, before the end of the line. I'd done the line once before because it's only served half hourly and the tram waits at Herdings Park for 15 minutes before coming back, but I decided to go and get Herdings today, running to Gleadless Townsend in the hope of getting an ex Halfway back to the city centre before the return of 125. I had a good reason for this. I'd done some quick calculations and found out 125 would probably get me back to the station too late for Roversfan's 158, so I just had to hope that I'd get one at Gleadless Townsend because the PIS displays weren't working. I was soon alighting at shack score 1, Herdings/Leighton Road, and I immediately ran the distance to Gleadless Townsend. It only took a couple of minutes (it's about half a mile) and I was soon on the platform hoping that there was a tram in a few minutes. Quite a few people were waiting for one, so I hoped this meant that there hadn't been one for a while, and my run was rewarded by dud for the day 117 off the Halfway branch. It was a rather busy tram, getting busier as the journey progressed, but it got me to the station in time for my next move. Back to the heavy rail then!
Supertram by fishquinn1, on Flickr

I got the platform as the 13:37 Norwich was approaching, from the same direction it'd leave. I was very pleased to see that leading unit as it arrived was winner 158856. Dud 158770 was on the back. I got in the coach that I knew Roversfan was in, and took the bay of 2 next to him and his friend for the 12.25-mile journey. It was a good, brief catch up and I was soon bailing at Chesterfield, which was shack score 2. I had a 25-minute fester here for the next non-221 to Sheffield, so went for a walk down to the end of platform 3 to kill the time. Annoyingly, just as I changed over to platform 1, a trio of colas 60s went past on platform 3. Typical.

Mum called me while I was waiting, saying that she'd finished and was going to try and find her way back to the station. I thanked her, assuming that I now had 10 hours before mum managed to find the station, but I was proven wrong with a phone call about 20 minutes later saying that she'd got there and was waiting in a coffee shop. Our plan had us on the 15:49 from Sheffield to Derby but I decided that I didn't want to keep her waiting, even though she said that she was happy waiting. I took the 14:20 EMT 158s back to Sheffield, with winner 158858 and one of my two stalkers, 158813, because a trip on EMT 158s wouldn't be complete without getting 813 or 810.

Back at Sheffield, I had to resist the temptation of a winner 158 through to Meadowhall and instead head over to mum. She was happy enough to head back an hour earlier than planned, so we headed over to the platform for the 14:49 St Pancras. Well, that's kind of what we did. We walked past the St Pancras service to wait on the platform for the slightly late running 14:37 to Norwich. I'd decided that if it was a winner we'd go for it to Chesterfield to get less rancid 222 mileage but, if it was a dud, we'd just get the 222 through to Derby to save a change. I was delighted to see winner 158854 on it, along with dud 158846. We got on board, getting a bay of 2, and were soon at Chesterfield.

There wasn't long to wait here for the 222 to Derby, and we were soon getting on winner 222103. The journey to Derby was hateful and the 222 had the usual affect on me. Needless to say it was a pleasure to get off. A tram had just arrived from Etches Park when we got there so, sending mum to a bench so she could chill out, I went to get a few photos of it. I then joined her on the bench and we waited for 170519 on the 15:37 to New Street, managing to get a bay of 2 together on this fairly busy service.

Back at New Street, having waited outside the station for quite a while, we had ample time to get across to Moor Street for the 16:55 back to Leamington. I wasn't happy with what I saw when I got there. It seems the Arriva in Chiltern really is coming out now, because they seem happy to put a 2 car 170 on the 16:55 from Moor Street to Marylebone on Good Friday. We managed to get to 168327 about 25 minutes before departure, so we got good enough seats though. Dad was called and I decided to tell him that we'd left Derby (at this point we would've been leaving had we been on plan). This wasn't a lie. We had left Derby. I didn't say that we had to have left Derby a few minutes ago - an hour's fine ;). I called him back to say the truth though, and we were soon heading back to Leam on what was an uneventful journey.

After arrival it was a simple walk back to the car after a funky day out, even if it wasn't the one I'd hoped (that'd include a cat and tram - damn bank holiday). Still, at least I got a couple of winner shacks, a few winner 158s, a nice time with mum and a good catch up with Roversfan. Sounds good for a day that only cost me lunch!

Too much Turbostar mileage, most sensible people would have caught the direct XC service to Sheffield from Leamington rather than having to suffer the drone ;)

Imagine if you got caught by the conductor on that tiny tram hop and were forced to pay out for a fare

There's just one thing bugging me in your trip report - the intermediate stop between Gleadless TOWNEND and Herdings Park is Herdings Leighton Road. It'd be a pretty awful stop to call Herdings considering it serves less of Herdings than the actual terminus does.

Done with the pedantry ;)

The PIDS are also useless if anything deviates off of it's normal timetable, the system gets confused and so then the bog standard "refer to timetables" message is shown - mind you, it probably wouldn't have been much use even if it realised that it was a bank holiday either...

Too much Turbostar mileage, most sensible people would have caught the direct XC service to Sheffield from Leamington rather than having to suffer the drone ;)

Imagine if you got caught by the conductor on that tiny tram hop and were forced to pay out for a fare
Sensible people would've done what I did ;). It's a shame that the tractor tour was a 1st class only one - if it had standard I think it would've been a part fare to Derby.

I was completely valid for the tram hop though - a Sheffield plusbus for £2 is good value.

It's actually Herdings/Leighton Road, so I assumed that either was fine ;). I agree that the Sheffield tram PIS screens are utterly rubbish.

There must be something very unique that makes you dislike the 222s, I've never known anyone feel ill on them before. And that includes me when I had displeasure for them back in MML days! Which reminds me that I need to hurry up and get my 222 requirements down...

Aside from that, a decent little spin. Surely you knew not to expect anything to run as normal on Good Friday?! Not even LM stick to their usual weekday diagrams on Good Friday/Bank Holiday Frothdays!

I agree with Kite, if it had been me I'd have said stuff and jumped on the Voyager from Leamington all the way through. 170 avoidance moves are precious here, especially if it's a day when I have no earphones or if I'm in the company of others. 90 minutes on a 170 with rattles and droning is torture as far as I'm concerned!

I'm not sure what it is, but I certainly know that they're awful units.

I didn't know it was Good Friday until all the plans had been made, so it was unavoidable really.

Floating in a bubble...

...Car. OK, maybe floating isn't the correct word for a journey on a 121 bubble car. Maybe bouncing along like a kangaroo is a better way to put it. Still, you never hear of a bubble bouncing along so the title stays.

As you can probably tell Wednesday the 19th of April 2017 was to be a trip to Princes Risborough for the Chiltern bubble car, which would be retired at the May timetable change in a month's time. A forum meet had come up on the 19th, so I decided to go along and make a day of it, getting a few Chiltern shacks and (hopefully) a few of my required 3-car 165s, of which I needed 6.

I was heading in with dad so it was an alarm set for 05:20 deal. I got up and ready so we could head out at 05:50 and we were soon on the move. I got my tickets when we arrived at the station and headed onto the platform, not having to wait long for 165006 on the 06:24 to Snow Hell today. We got our usual bay of 2 and the two Colas shovels, 67023 and 027, were spotted in Tyseley on the way. This was followed by 68008 on the first Kiddy-Marylebone of the day, which was good news as it meant I wouldn't be getting it and would instead be getting two of 68011, 68013 and 68012. I was hoping for 12 on the turn that I'd get the most mileage as it was still needed for 1000 and it'd mean that dad could join me for a run to Leam on it to clear it on his train home (he needed about 30 miles to clear it).

We headed for Wetherspoon after arrival at Snow Hell and got pancakes as usual. There were rather good and went down really well with my cranberry juice. We chatted until I needed to head off, at 07:45, and I went back over to Snow Hell ready for my first cat.

The 07:50 Marylebone was soon arriving with 68013 on the back. 11 or 12 on my mega(ish) mileage move later then! We were soon on the move and it was an uneventful journey through to Banbury where I bailed, getting some excellent thrash from Hairball as it left. I then simply waited on the platform for the next Marylebone service, which I'd take through to Bicester. I wasn't happy that Chiltern decided to put a 168/0 out this morning but I got on 168001 anyway. This was taken through to Bicester and, after a very loud droning journey I was getting off and quickly walking away from the unit to save myself going deaf from the noise of it departing.

The 09:26 to Moor Street was running just over 10 minutes late so I decided to go for a little walk with the time I had. After exiting the station I turned right under the railway and walked for a few minutes down a fairly green, leafy path. Any illusion that I was in some place other than northern Bicester was shattered when I emerged onto some random housing estate, so I just turned back along the path and went back up to the station with a bit of time to kill before the cat.

I got worried when I saw the PIS boards. It was still running a little under 10 minutes late but instead of being formed of 6 coaches as usual it was only formed of 5. This indicated to me that it was a cart. I decided to head to the ticket office to see if they could check, as I'd get the next southbound cart at 09:29 if it wasn't, but I was assured that it was a cat, so I stayed. It was reassuring to see the approaching lights of a 68 but I was soon thinking that it looked slightly too blue to be silver. I've had this before and it turned out to be a trick of the light so I didn't let my hopes drop but as it got closer it was unmistakably 68008 turned back from Marylebone early due to a problem with the cat that was meant to work it. Damn.

I got a seat on board the short formed silver set and Avenger performed well as it took me back to Birmingham, getting slightly busier than normal due to the lack of a 6th coach. Another enthusiast that I know joined at Solihull and told me the cat that'd failed. It was 12. I was rather annoyed at this as it was my cat of choice but you know what they say. When life gives you a dud cat for 1000, scream at it until it runs away. This wasn't an option: I was in the quiet coach.

There was a 25-minute turn around in Brum before it formed the 10:55 but I stayed on board and we were soon on the move. It was an uneventful ride with some pleasant scenery after Princes Risborough, and I was soon arriving at High Wycombe, shack score 1. I got a few photos from the footbridge, watched it leave and went to get some cash out before walking over to the bay platform for the stopping 165 to Marylebone, 165018.

I took a seat in the front coach and we were soon on the move. I did an RTT check and found out that going to Gerrards Cross was by far the best option, so I went for that and got off at shack score 2 not long later. I then changed platforms to view what the next service was, as it was due imminently. It was just a two car 165 so I flagged it and instead headed to the very handily located Tesco just outside the station to get a snack, having made lunch in the morning. I just went for a drink in the end before going back to the station to find that the barriers were closed and completely unmanned. I tried my ticket and the stupid things rejected it. I heard the announcement for my planned train and heard that it was formed of 3 coaches so simply went through right behind a normal who was thankfully using the family barrier, so there was more time. Train made.

I was pleased to see that it'd be winner 165038 next. I easily got a decent seat on board and I stayed on through to High Wycombe after checking my options - a tight connection onto a slightly late ex Aylesbury. A word of warning if changing trains at High Wycombe: don't. If you're going from the bay platform to the Marylebone bound through platform you've got to get off the cart, run miles down the platform to the entrance (the drivers stopped way before the buffers on all services except 165018 earlier in the day) then back along the Princes Risborough bound through platform for ages before going over a nasty footbridge and down onto the other platform. Leave at least 3 minutes even if running and don't even try to make it if you can already see your connecting train just after getting off the one in the bay platform.

I managed to make the connection due to a slightly late service from Brum and was soon on dud 165002. This was now running just under 10 minutes late, so I had an idea. If I continued through to Gerrards Cross I'd need to wait for exactly the same service as if I bailed at Seer Green and Jordans. Seer Green is served by one train an hour in each direction and is so poor for train times that you have exactly a half-hour wait for the next one. It was a lovely day to fester and, with less time to kill and no downside to bailing, I got off at shack score 3, Seer Green and Jordans.

I gave dad a call before going for a little walk down a nice tree covered lane. This ended at what seemed like an A road so I just turned around and headed back to the station. I was the only person at the station for the whole fester and I got to see 68008 come back through on its way to Brum. I also saw that my service, the 13:36 to Aylesbury, was formed of 3 coaches too. Winner 165? No, most certainly not. I was rather annoyed to see a 168 approaching - you come all the way out here to try and get non-local winners and instead end up with my local traction. At least 168108 was my lowest mileage one (not including the 170s).

I took a seat on board and decided to just go to Beaconsfield on this one for a winner shack and potential winner unit under 10 minutes behind. Alas it was another 2 car on the one behind but 165022 got me to High Wycombe bay platform OK, stopping miles away from the buffers as usual. The ex Aylesbury was again slightly late so I had time to run over to the other platform to get on board two-car 165028. This was taken one stop to Beaconsfield where I changed platforms for the 14:10 back through to High Wycombe, another two-car, 165001. This gave me a chance to get back over to the unit currently in the bay platform, dud for the day 165022 which gave me a chance to superdud it.

I was soon alighting at Gerrards Cross, as I had a few choices of what to do next. My first option was a dud 3-car, annoyingly so I flagged it and decided to see what was on the second. Before that arrived 66720 came through on a freight so I took a photo before it went through the tunnel. Anyway, the next one was another dud 2-car. This meant I went with another plan, which gave me another winner shack. Alas it didn't give mea winner unit as 168327 was working the 14:49 stopper to Marylebone, which I took one stop to winner shack Denham Golf Club. I was thinking of walking to Denham if there was a map of the surrounding area but it looked like it was quite a way and, not knowing the route, I decided that I wouldn't risk it. I just took up a bench on the northbound platform to wait for the 15:12 to Gerrards Cross.

I was glad to see that it was a 3 car according to the boards, and was also a 165, so I got my hopes up for a winner. Alas it wasn't to be as it was dud 165030 that would take me back to Gerrards Cross where I decided to go and get my ticket from Princes Risborough to Aylesbury ready for the bubble car. I got that with no issue and then headed back over to the Tesco to get something to eat, which came in the form of a few chocolate Danishes, of which I had two after getting back to the station. Then, just after I'd finished, 37800 came through light engine. Hellfire!

165004 and 165022, the latter already had twice today, were next up. I was wondering if I should get this through to Princes Risborough to be safe or if I should risk the +30. Why? It was pretty simple. When I was at Gerrards Cross before boarding I'd heard an announcement saying that there was a points failure at Marylebone restricting some services. I decided to risk it and bailed at Beaconsfield as it gave me two more chances at a winner before arrival at Risborough - one from Beaconsfield to High Wycombe and another from High Wycombe to Princes Risborough, which was a known 3-car. Anyway, two-car 165023 took me from Beaconsfield and I was pleased to see that my intended train from Wycombe had left Marylebone on time so, after a fairly small fester at Wycombe, I found out that my last shot at a winner 3 car had died because it was dud 165037.

I'd soon arrived at Princes Risborough where I had a simple wait in the sun for the other forum members to arrive. I got to see 68011 race through while waiting and I'd soon met up with everyone and watched winner 121034 arrive. Before that had happened though I'd got a call from dad saying that I may encounter some major overcrowding on my journey home because Euston had been shut for much of the afternoon. Excellent.

We got on board and it was a fun ride over to Aylesbury on this fairly busy service. During the ride the guard announced that people were welcome to come into the guards compartment if they wanted to. I was happy where I was so I stayed put.

At Aylesbury a lot of people got off for photos, myself included.

I was able to get a seat at the very back with the glass cab so I had a good view out of the back, as did a few other forum members. The guard invited people into the leading cab on the journey back, which I was very surprised at, but I decided to keep my reverse cab view instead and let other people go to the cab.

Most forum members went for a meal now so I was left at Risborough to wait for my slightly delayed cat to Bicester at 18:02. I got several photos of the bubble car while waiting for it and I was soon on the correct platform for 68009 through to Bicester on the slam door set. Cat thrash time!

The noise was absolutly brilliant from the front vestibule and it was a huge shame to have to alight at Bicester in the end. The slam door set only goes through to Banbury on Friday evenings now and stops short at Bicester on every other day so I'd need to get a cart for my next move.

I didn't have too long to fester at Bicester before the 18:35 Birmingham, which I knew was going to be rather busy because of Euston. It was formed of 8 coaches today, a lash up of 3 units, 168321, 168218 and 168219. Even with this it was a very busy service and I was crammed into a busy vestibule through to Banbury, where I bailed. I was now to wait 20 minutes for some infinitely superior traction through to Leamington (I can hear you all saying 221 now so I urge you to be quiet ;)). 68008 was on the 19:10 to Kiddy today, and was very busy. I was stood in the main body of the coach even after a mass exodus at Banbury but I managed to get on, which was the main thing. To Leam!

I'd called dad on departure from Banbury to let him know that I was en route. This gave him just over quarter of an hour to get to Leam, which he managed it in. I was pleasantly surprised to see that mum had also come out to meet me so it was a sociable run back to Leam after a great day out.

Question is, which tickets did you use for such a jolly? I don't think there's a Chiltern Ranger available, so did you just have a fistful of return tickets?

A good day out otherwise.

Great mixture of old and new there Quinn. I love the photo taken from the front window by the 68. They just look and sound great to me, we're very lucky they went down the loco hauled route.

Good day there. Sounds similar to my bubble adventure although I had one return ticket for my journey south and bus stopped my way there and back with another return to Aylesbury! I walked to Denham from Denham golf club. Very easy to do but is quite a way. Get a cheap smart phone and use google maps?

Sounded like a good day in Chiltern land, bouncing along on the bubble
It was indeed :)

Alas no Chiltern ranger available - A fistful of return tickets it is.

I can't be bothered getting a smart phone - I always tend to look at these things before heading out. Cheers!

1st class dining day 1

A pretty self explanatory title for this one. The 20th of April was a forum meet the day after the Chiltern bubble car one. This one was a positioning move for a meet up in North Wales, going from Cardiff in 1st class on the WAG. This was something that I really wanted to do again before having to go over to adult fares so I decided to book a standard advance to Chester on it and back the next day, asking Yorkie to sort the 1st class upgrades for each way. He did so (thanks for that) so I was going to be doing a 1st class journey from Cardiff to Chester with an evening meal on the 20th and a full brekky from Chester to Cardiff on the 21st, all for an extra £10 each way on top of my advance. Bargain!

I was going back in to work with dad again on the morning of the 20th, having gone in with him the day before. There was no way I was going to have pancakes at Wetherspoon again this morning having had them for both breakfast and dinner the night before so I decided to just check the menu after getting there. We'd left the boats just after 05:50 and were soon at the station waiting for 165004, which I'd had the day before. It was an uneventful journey down to Birmingham, seeing 20s 096, 107, 314 and 311 at Tyseley on the way.

Once getting to Snow Hell we wandered over to Wetherspoon as usual and, after a quick look at the menu, I decided to go for a large traditional brekky, swapping the mushroom and tomato for an extra egg and sausage. Dad went for an eggs benedict and the odds fell in my favour as it was dad's turn. It didn't matter much today though because I decided to get tap water instead of a juice to lower the price so it was only a couple of quid more. Our breakfasts had soon arrived and I was stunned at the huge size of mine - it'd certainly save me the need to get lunch. It was very tasty, as was dad's eggs benedict from what he said, and filled me up really well. I headed off at about 07:50 and was soon at New Street where I got ready to get a photo of my next move as it approached.
Entering the tunnel by fishquinn1, on Flickr
I then got on board the 08:12 Plymouth, which had 43285 leading. I had a hunch of what'd be on the back because Nat had had them on the Tuesday when coming back from holiday in Newquay. If it was I'd be glad because it was my penultimate XC one for the year. That and it'd mean that both powercars were required for the year. I found out after bailing that it was indeed 43303 on the back, leaving just 366 to clear them for the year.

No problems were encountered with my loophole and the journey went OK. The guard was soche and he tried to sell me my required ticket from Bristol Parkway to Cardiff Bay but unfortunately couldn't because the machine was playing up and wouldn't accept my card. He apologized and simply told me to get my ticket at Bristol Parkway or on the train to Cardiff if I didn't have enough time.

I was soon watching 285 and 303 leave Bristol Parkway on their way to Plymouth and obviously stayed on the platform to avoid a potential problem at the barriers. Bath station was shut at the time so GWR were diverting trams via Bristol Parkway which allowed me to see a couple of sets before my service - all duds for 100.
Bristol Parkway by fishquinn1, on Flickr
Then I got in position to both see the guard before boarding and get the rear powercar. Alas it was double dud for 100 (and both rather dull powercars) 43125 and 43192, the latter also being dud for the year. Darn it.

The guard was happy to sell me a ticket on board so I took a seat and she soon sold me the required ticket without hassle. I stayed on the tram through to Cardiff and was soon getting there on time.

I headed over to the platforms for stuff out of the Valleys (towards Queen Street) and waited for a 150. The first one was a pair of pacers so was flagged but I was pleased to see that winner 150285 was the one along next so I went through to Queen Street. Having done the run to Scotland in a couple of minutes I decided to do some 334 bashing instead of more sprinter leaping. Oh wait. Wrong Queen Street.

I decided to go for a run to Cardiff Bay now with a lack of 150s so I got on board dud 153327 when it arrived and did the return trip, getting back about 10 minutes later. This only gave me a few minutes to wait for the next 150, dud 150283 back to Cardiff.

We arrived on platform 8 so I had to go through the subway to get back up onto the valleys platform and onto winner 150245.
Through the doors by fishquinn1, on Flickr
I had about 10 minutes to wait at Queen Street for the next 150, which was coupled to a 142 that obviously wasn't identified, and I was glad to see that it was winner 150267. Back to Central then.

After arrival I noticed a winner 175 in another platform so I decided to run over to check it out. It was due to leave on the 11:21 Holyhead so I had time to get on board (it was about 11:15 at this point) a very lightly loaded coach of winner 175116. We were soon on the move and I bailed at the first stop, Newport. I knew that the it was a minus connection off the xx:25 from Cardiff onto a tram back so I assumed that I'd make the connection being a few minutes earlier. It turns out I was wrong - a double requirement for 100 and the year was leaving as we were arriving. Damn!

I decided to trace it's moves on RTT to try and get it later, jotting down what it was to do. At Newport though I had a few options of what to do next. Number 1 was a cart back to Cardiff, number 2 a half hour fester for a tram to Cardiff and number 3 was a tram to Bristol Parkway for another back. I went for the best of the 3 options (no prizes for guessing which) and was soon boarding 43020 and 43191 for the ride to Bristol Parkway, the former not having been had since 2014. It was the same guard on this one that had sold me the ticket from Newport earlier on so I said hi before getting a seat on board for the ride back into England.

We were slightly delayed arriving at Bristol Parkway but I was still able to get over to the other platform in time for my connection back, which had a pair of powercars that I dislike on: 43091 and 43158. I knew that a bunch of forum members were on this in the Pullman section but I wasn't to be one of them so I just passed through saying hi on the way and took a seat in standard for the ride back to Wales' capital city.

The other forum members that had been on my train went over to a pacer so they could get in position to do a walk that I didn't want to do. I headed over to the other platform after getting a couple of photos and noticed that one of my winner 150s had just arrived and ended its journey so it'd be going back out in about 15 minutes.
43091 by fishquinn1, on Flickr
I decided to make use of this time to get a drink, deciding to head over to the 1st class lounge and make use of my ticket to get a couple of bottles of water. Unfortunately I was a complete idiot and picked up sparkling water instead of still so went back in to swap them before changing platforms again.

Winner 150241 was on the service I expected so I headed out to Cardiff Queen Street on it and had a wait of just over 5 minutes for dud 150284 back to Central. I then saw a Swansea-Paddington tram approaching so I decided to view it to see if either powercar was on my hit list. I was pleased to see that the rear powercar was indeed on my list so I ran over to it and got on board 43098 and 43088, the rear of which was needed for 100. I worked out a plan to get me onto the double required for 100 powercars I'd seen earlier so stayed on this tram set back to Bristol Parkway where it was a fairly tight connection due to another slight delay. Thankfully the connection made onto 43012 and 43053, which was a brilliant pair because 012 was needed for 100 and 053 was my favourite GWR powercar (by was I mean is. Or did I mean were? Or are? No, certainly is). I took this through to Newport, clearing 012 for 100 in the process and I was soon watching them leave with only a couple of minutes before my next powercars.
43012 by fishquinn1, on Flickr

43183 was soon arriving with 43146 along for company.
43183 by fishquinn1, on Flickr
These were the powercars that I'd just missed at Newport earlier in the day so it was good to get them and clear 183 as well. 146 didn't pass that hallowed mark on this run, unfortunately. Forum member BB21 left the train at the same door that i was about to board so I said hi quickly before getting a seat.

My connection at Bristol Parkway was once again looking tight due to a delay around Severn Tunnel Junction but we made some time up and arrived at the same time as my connection, 43153 and 43193, the latter being only on 51.75 miles. It wouldn't be cleared on the run back to Cardiff but it would get fairly close, which was good.

Back at Cardiff I had time to view the 15:56 Paddington. Yes, I know my day was meant to be about getting as many winner units as possible but when you have the choice between grotty ATW and GWR units or tram mileage, what do you go for? No, don't say the carts, as I'm sure many of you are doing now just to spite me ;). Neither powercar was needed on the Paddington but both were needed for the year so I decided to get a bit more tram mileage and get 43198 and 43142 back out to Newport.

I got to Newport at about 16:05, missing the connection onto a tram back. I now needed to get back to Cardiff for the WAG so wouldn't have time to go to Bristol Parkway, unfortunately. This left me with the option of getting a cart or waiting for the tram at 16:31, which was now expected at 16:35. I decided to go for the latter, getting a couple of creative photos while waiting (including one of a 150 through the lift doors).
Through the glass by fishquinn1, on Flickr
The 16:31 eventually arrived at 16:38 with 43155 leading. I'd already seen this set today so I knew what the rear powercar was and I was completely fine with 43186 even though it was dud for the year. My reason why is because this move would nudge it just under the 900-mile mark having had it to Penzance and back in March. That and the fact that Nat would have a fit when he heard that I'd got it because it was on 931 miles for him. The powercars did a good enough job at taking me back to Cardiff Central where it was time to wait for the 17:16 Holyhead in style...

...That being in the 1st class lounge. The other members were already in there so I joined them and had a good few bits to eat before we had to go onto the platform. I was expecting 67002 because that was what was on it the day before. I was very happy to see that the colour wasn't blue but silver. That's 12 or 14! It wasn't Thomas Telford, unfortunately but 67012 is my second favourite shovel, and dad's favourite. I was very glad at this compared to 002 so immediately called dad to say. I then took a seat in one of the bays of 4 in the business zone and was joined by 3 other forum members. I'd already chosen what I was getting for dinner: for starter minted welsh lamb kebabs; for main pork loin and mash; and for dessert sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. Food orders were taken not long after departure and drinks were also taken, our table getting a carton of orange juice to share. Food then came, which was good because I was hungry, and was brilliant. My starter was followed with the main (what an odd way of doing things - you'd expect it to be starter-pudding-main, surely? ;)). That was also very good, as was pudding. It was great to catch up with everyone again, particularly in the comfort of a 1st class coach, and it was a shame to have to leave at Chester, about 3 hours after boarding.

I was going to get a photo of pudding but it was gone too quickly. We were also allowed to have a second carton of orange juice to share between us, which was good.

We arrived at Chester a few minutes late so my uncle was going to be waiting for me. I didn't have time to watch the shovel leave because of this and immediately headed over to the car park, my uncle and cousin meeting me on the concourse. We then headed to the car and over to their house as they'd been happy to let me stay for the night. It was good to catch up again and I was soon falling asleep on an air bed downstairs, ready for day 2.

Just be careful, loophole tickets are one thing but doing the other one can open up a whole book of stuff

It's incredibly rare I'll even contemplate it - the majority of the time I'm using completely valid tickets (including loopholes, which occasionally make using it a couple of times valid).

That looked like a good day out fq. I remember when they built Exeter Panel Signal Box and it's got a power car named after it, seems quite strange to me.

As per request, I have very significantly edited my post.

I agree with rg177, and I sincerely hope you took in the advice you've recently received. We don't want to see you posting in a particular part of the forum!

I standby my comments however that you are in very shaky territory.

Thanks guys - I'll keep your comments in mind.

Cowley - I agree it seems weird that GWR named a powercar after the box but, according to the nameplate, it's to celebrate the 21st anniversary in 2009 (why they couldn't have waited for the 25th I don't know). It's a better nameplate than 'Travelwatch Southwest' though - that's dire

1st class dining day 2

I slept surprisingly well on the airbed and was soon being woken by my alarm at about 06:15. I watched an episode of the big bang theory before getting ready and decided to wait before heading up to my auntie until I absolutely had to. I was to leave Chester at 07:14 so I decided to head up at 06:45. She was already up and I was able to say bye to her and one of my cousins before setting off for the station by foot. It was a pleasant enough walk down early in the morning and I wasn't waiting on the platform long before I could see a silver shovel approaching.

67012 was sounding sweet as it passed me and I was soon getting into the completely empty business zone for the ride ahead. I took my reserved seat for no reason other than it was a good one and we were soon leaving Chester in the same direction it'd arrived to head towards Wrexham.

My ticket was checked just after departure by a very friendly guard who wished me a good breakfast and my drink order was taken just after departure. I asked for an orange juice but I wasn't able to have one because it was all taken on the service to Holyhead the night before . That'd be my table then! I settled with some water instead and I was asked if I wanted breakfast a couple of minutes later. I did and, because it's made to order they were happy to swap the mushroom and black pudding for an extra egg and sausage. It had soon arrived, looking very tasty, and I only remembered to get a photo after having a forkful of beans.

It was very good quality and I remained the only person in the coach (except the 1st class hosts) until Shrewsbury where an ATW employee joined. The scenery along the Marches was great and I got a bowl of Crunchy Nut cornflakes in the Hereford area. We reached Newport after the nice scenery and it was a fairly fast run down the South Wales mainline to Cardiff, arriving on time.

Dad had to go to Derby for work today and was to be getting the 08:19. I made him get the unit number as I'd be able to get the unit later in the day if it was either of my 2 required XC 170s. I was stunned to hear that dad was actually on 170397, one of the two, so I put it into my plan to get it later in the day.

Forum member BB21 had been kind enough to text me gen on my required ATW 150s, and they came through just after arrival - thanks for them by the way! I found out that not too many were gettable but I'd be able to get some of them. Photos of 67012 were got after arrival but I didn't have too long before having to go for my first 150.

My service was departing from platform 8 heading to Barry and was winner 150278, as booked. I took it one stop to Grangetown, seeing 67012 for one last time as it went into the shed. Then, once at Grangetown, it was a case of waiting for the first non-pacer back to Cardiff.

I was waiting for about 25 minutes (completely and utterly booked - I passed a couple of 150s heading towards Cardiff on the way) and dud 150241 was a welcome sight.

I got talking with someone on the train who used to be an enthusiast back in steam days who was telling me about Cardiff and York back in the day as his grandparents lived in Malton. Not too far from Pickering . It was a good quick chat and I was soon bailing at Central and heading back over to the main platforms having arrived on platform 0.

I decided to head into the 1st class lounge to make use of my ticket so spent a few minutes in there, watching chaos unfold from a signal failure at Port Talbot. Trams were being caped, which was annoying as I wanted to go on the 10:55 to Newport. This one starts at Cardiff but GWR decided to sent it at as the 10:25 instead, starting from Cardiff, in the hope that what was originally going to be on that service would arrive not too long after 10:55. This was good thinking but meant that I got double winner 153382 and 150266 to Newport instead on the 10:59. 150266 was one of the 150s with a refurbished interior so I took a seat in there on the fairly empty service. Part way to Newport I decided to get a photo of the interior.

I noticed that the NMT was currently at Newport when we arrived so I got a couple of photos before it left.

I wasn't at Newport for too long before a Cardiff bound tram arrived so I got on board 43035 and 43018 for the run back.

It was now time to get the last of my required ATW 150s that I knew was out. I would be able to tie this in with getting the bay shuttle so headed to the Queen Street bound platform for dud 150254 up to Queen Street before going over to the bay platform to view the 153. I was pleased to see that it was a winner so I got on board winner 153323 and stayed on it for the round trip to the bay.

Once back at Queen Street I didn't have too long to wait for winner 150236 back to Central. Once there I had a couple of minutes to change platform for a late running Swansea-Padd tram, which was delayed at Port Talbot by the signaling problems. Dud for 100 43010 was leading, with required 43176 on the back. Brilliant!

Once at Newport I got photos of both powercars and settled down for a 25-minute fester which would (hopefully) put me onto the winner XC 170 that dad had had to Derby earlier in the day. I saw another two tram sets while waiting, one of which I'd get back to Bristol Parkway as a mandatory move later in the day if I missed the minus connection onto an ex Swansea. Seeing the powercars made me really want to make the connection, because the front powercar (43004) was one that I dislike because it follows me around and the rear powercar (43161) was dud for the year twice already.

I was soon watching a Cross Country 170 approach from the Severn Tunnel Junction direction. I was pleased to see the headlight cluster was that of a 170/3 and I was very glad at the gen dad had given me as winner 170397 was to be had back to Cardiff.

All was looking good for the connection at Cardiff onto the ex Swansea tram as we were running a few minutes early. This all changed rather quickly when we came to a stop outside the station and stayed there for over 5 minutes before moving forward to one of the platforms, stopping just as the Paddington tram was pulling out. 161 and 004 it is then :(. I helped someone off the train with their suitcase before wandering back over to platform 1 and making a visit to the 1st class lounge for my 20 minutes until the 13:55 tram. It was a nice little wait and I was exiting as 43161 and 43004 arrived ECS to take me back to England on a fairly lightly loaded service.

No problems were encountered on the ride back to Bristol Parkway so we arrived bang on time. I watched the tram set leave and, because it was a Friday, a southbound tram set would be due any moment. Alas, with the new timetable, this service is no longer a tram. 43285 and 303, the same pair that I'd had to Bristol Parkway the day before, were on this so I got a couple of photos but couldn't watch it leave because 43378 and 43301, the former being needed for 1000, were in before I had a chance.

I managed to get a bay of 2 to myself on board and it was a nice enough journey back to the bat cave, excluding the stagger down the Cross City. Still, we arrived on time but it was still too late for 1H62, dad's train home from Moor Street at 15:55, as we arrived as it left. That is the most infuriating thing about this tram, that's for sure.

I wandered over to Snow Hell as usual and got onto the platform to find a 168/0 waiting for me there. What an excellent way to end the day... not (if any of you were thinking that it would be a nice way to end the day I think you should find a mental institute and get in there ASAP ;)). This was the weird hybrid thing 168005/3 and it was a rancid journey back to Leam. How I wish I could have been on the cat with dad 20 minutes earlier...

Dad was waiting for me on the platform at Leam so I went straight to him and we headed out of the station and back to the car. It had been a great couple of days even though the planned cart bashing got shoved out of the way for tram bashing. Oh wait. That made it so much better!
