Firstly fishquinn, what a cracking read indeed, young sir. This certainly interests me because I'm a good way through planning a FoSS for June 6th to the 9th.
However I wont be whizzing back and forth on trams with my head out the window, they've earned my grudging respect but old habits die hard. To be truthful up here, I'd sooner ride behind a zing than a blunt(91) and a way ahead of a voyager.
This is not a criticism of you mind, each to their own, very creditable effort, trying to scratch them HST's off, however, the coaching stock will be more than of great interest to me.
Looking forward to the last installment.

How you can like New Street but not Cheltenham Spa I don't know! Granted the roof thing will have put a negative feel on you. Cheltenham is one of many stations I have fond memories of from my HST bashing days, it will always feel special to me for the many, many, many visits I made to it between 2005 and 2010.

Golden Valley is most scenic during leaf fall season from memory. Kemble is a railhead for the area, tons of people will drive there from all manners of places including Circencester. Hence the crowds!

Well done on getting your GWR HSTs down! I too like the plain blue livery, it just works so well. Not seen the green one yet, but they don't seem to be rushing rebranding whatsoever!

A FOSS is definitely great fun and I'm sure that you'll enjoy it!

Helltenham, sorry Cheltenham, was a required shack for me that day so no fond memories from it. But the upstairs at New Street is great!

Would have stayed on for longer but I had an appointment with a certain 168 heading towards Oxford

Was working the 16:50odd Marylebone to Snowy Hill.

I don't see the attraction of New Street, it's bloody impossible to find your way around there now. And they took away our Burger King which still riles me endlessly!

Mr Quinn, Cheltenham would be fond memories for you too if you'd had countless trips with proper sounding HSTs in and out of there, especially towards the end of Valentas, Marston coolers and NA256 turbos on the Western/XC sets. Not to mention one trip where we had 43053 pre-conversion on hire from East Coast to XC. Oh my days what a run that was!

Excuse me while I go and enjoy some fine nostalgia, especially with a big anniversary coming up in the next couple of days...

Kite - I didn't know that there was a 68 working the 16:50 yesterday!

Tech - What I like about New Street is that it's now open with light coming in and it looks like a nice, big glass dome. The barriers are annoying though, especially if you have to go through a few thousand of them to get where you want to go! I'm sure I would like Cheltenham if I had loads of trips with brush, trams and loads of other locos. Hellfire!

Where are you going in the next few days? Nottingham? London?

Nothing cheaper than a Super Off Peak Return at £69.10 when I looked the other day! The days of cheap Advances on my route seem to be numbered, never any available when I look.

There £3.25/£3.50 if I remember correctly. The only creamy coolers that I've had on my trips are Belgian chocolate and Strawberries and cream.

Agreed they're not cheap, but they are nice in hot weather. I had two in one day once, not recommended!
