Four (Plus) Digit Fleet Numbers With Three (Plus) Examples

First/ Stagecoach moved to five digit fleet numbers many years ago

Arriva/ Transdev/ Go Ahead certainly use four digit numbers on some of their vehicles

Obviously there are examples of one number being used by two separate vehicles (e g. 37501 is an 08-plate Gemini used by First in Bradford and also the number of a 67-plate E200 used in London by Stagecoach

But are there any/many four (plus) digit numbers used by three (plus) buses?

(Plenty of small firms will no doubt use two digit fleet numbers, even three digit, so I'm restricting it to anything that's at least four digits long - and at least three examples of that number currently in use - bonus points of any of these buses could conceivably be in the same city at the same time)

McGill's Group have what I would consider a fairly decent 4-digit fleet number system where buses are (generally?) sorted by chassis manufacturer. I can't imagine, given the large variety, that there wouldn't be times where 2 showing up on bustimes would match up with McGill's.

The easy way to answer that is to go into bustimes and type it into the search box. For instance...

3053 is a Wright Electroliner in London with TUK, a B5LH/Evoseti with Go North West, an Arriva NE Solo in Redcar and an Arriva Pulsar in Runcorn

3129 and 3140 were also ones I randomly entered and got three vehicles in each, as was 2801. 1205 had 5 hits

There's bound to be plenty of examples for four digit fleet numbers. For example, 4125 was an ALX400 Trident in service with NXWM until recently, while also being the number of an E200MMC with Arriva on the Colchester P&R, and was also the number of an ALX400 B7TL with Arriva in Merseyside. 4010 was a Spectra in the NXWM fleet, an E200 with Go North West, and is currently also used on a Plymouth E400 and an Arriva Herts & Essex E200.

2226-2227: two ex-Whitelaws/Arriva Fox County Eclipse Metros

McGill's of Greenock SA02 CCV (J2226) | Route 38 | Renfrew St, Glasgow

One of two Wright Eclipse Metro-bodied Volvo B7Ls bought by McGill's (SA02 CDF/J2227 being the other; both new to Whitelaws of Stonehouse & ex-Arriva Fox County), J2226 rests at the Renfew St stances before setting off with a 38 to Spateston in early Nov. 2016. Photo Date: 10th November 2016

2228: the unique-to-the-UK Hispano Habit ex-demonstrator, also sourced from Fox County

This is an old favourite, but I thought I'd air it out before putting some newer images up. Unique to the UK, McGill's Hispano/B7L 2228 calls at Partick Interchange with a evening 17 to Paisley in early September 2015 One of only 3 B7Ls McGill's operated, ex-demostrator 2228 was the only rigid...

All 3 were aquired by McGill's prior to the ASW takeover, so were numbered 226-228 at first.

On that note actually, and this seems to be largely forgotten (even by me at first when making this post!), but McGill's briefly operated a ex-Dublin Bus B7LA artic, re-registered X945 CNO and numbered 229; the two images of it at work with them that exist on Flickr show it on the X23 in January 2011. It didn't last long at all (apparently due to it being unable to navigate Buchanan Bus Station and was later barred from there). After it left the fleet, the 229/2229 fleetnumber slot was left vacant (linked image copyright of Flickr's MSE062).

I forgot about the B7Ls thinking they were early RLEs, but I did recall the existence of 229 (which is oddly plated between the imported ex-Bus Eireann Cadets) however I purposefully omitted it as that wasn't ever in the present system

Compass Bus are a small independent bus and they use four digit fleet numbers and i am sure i remember they have duplications with another operator somewhere. I can not remember off the top of my head but i definitely remember seeing a couple other buses with same fleet numbers.

Edit. Just found it. 4401 is used By Compass Bus and Arriva North East and Arriva Midlands for three separate vehicles.

Actually there must be some where Arriva have three buses with the same fleet number. Especially when you consider how Arriva does not have a national numbering system.

I wondered that for arrival but tried a few (1024, 2006, 1917, 1434, 1512, 4031) and couldn't ever find more than two.

For 3024 however, I found that both the buses that carry (or carried) that number for Arriva have very similar plates.

I have just found some with fleet numbers 4501 4502 4503 4504 4505 4506 4507 4508 4509 4510 all used by Arriva Midlands and Arriva North East and Arriva North West for three separate vehicles.

Also further to my previous post fleet numbers 4401 4402 4403 4504 4405 4506 are all used by Compass Bus and Arriva Midlands and Arriva North West for three separate vehicles.
