Hi,

I'm trying to purchase a ticket from Birmingham to Accrington on Saturday. I know this is frowned upon but due to trying to get club avanti trips I'm looking at booking the ticket it has found is two advances coming to £30
08.04 change at Wolverhampton onto avanti service - ticket birmingham stations - Accrington
16.22 Accrington birmingham stations advance single.

Avanti will not offer me these tickets

Avanti likely doesn't show them because it gets overtaken by the 0807 itinerary

The website gives me £44, do you hold a Railcard?

Yes 26-30 railcard.
Is there anyway to force avanti site to show it or not?

Probably not, there is not enough control to display overtaken journeys on Avanti's website

If the 8.04 is delayed am i able to catch the 8.07 as that is the train id be catching from Wolverhampton?

Also for peace of mind could I buy a single from Birmingham- Wolverhampton?

If you hold advance tickets for
  1. 08:04 New Street - Wolverhampton
  2. 08:32 Wolverhampton - somewhere
then, no, if the 08:04 is delayed you need to use it, change to a later Avanti service at Wolverhampton and claim Delay Repay.

That’s the way advance tickets work. You can’t just hop on the Avanti service at New Street because you don’t have a ticket for it from there. Buying a separate single Birmingham to Wolverhampton will overcome this as you say. In practice, maybe nobody will care, but do you want to take that risk?

Just to confirm, you want to buy a Birmingham to Accrington Advance, starting on the 08:04 West Midlands Trains service from Birmingham to Wolverhampton, and then stepping back to the 08:32 Avanti service from Wolverhampton (which leaves Birmingham at 08:07)?

If the 08:04 were delayed such that you'd be likely to miss your connection at Wolverhampton then yes, you could take the 08:07 from Birmingham instead.

This is because your ticket would be routed "Avanti & Connections" and with an Advance ticket you can, in the event of delays, take the next available service that complies with your ticket's route restrictions. On an "& Connections" Advance there are no explicit operator restrictions, so you can in principle use any operator to minimise delays. In any event you'd be using an Avanti train, which is of course fine on an "Avanti & ..." Advance.

As it happens, the 08:04 starts at Birmingham whereas the 08:07 starts in London, so if anything it's more likely the 08:07 will be the one that's delayed. If things are close-cut you might want to keep an eye on a live signalling map such as this to see which train has the route set out of New Street.

It's one advance ticket - birmingham - accrington - avanti and connections.
But the given iternary is 8.04 west Midlands changing onto the avanti at Wolverhampton.

Correct. I've attached the ittenary here. Alt: Photos show time of trains - leaving new street 8.04 and then Wolverhampton 8.32.

Then follow @Watershed ‘s advice, not mine.

I misunderstood the tickets that you have for your journey.
