I'm an on/off Guardian/Observer subscriber, depending on my financial situation. I'll occasionally buy the Sunday Times too.

I also regularly buy the New Statesman and Private Eye.

I used to read The Independent until it's demise, 7 days per week.

The I and occasional Observer have acted as a substitute.

I do find it sad a lot of people no longer read Newspapers , it's probably to a degree a generational thing.

I also miss the Independent. I would only ever buy a paper if I was travelling anywhere and was likely to have to wait somewhere between connections, or if I'm on holiday where there isn't much internet connectivity available. The Observer can be handy for whiling away a cold, damp highland day when it's too dreich to do anything else. In all other circumstances, I obtain most of my news from online sources.

In all honesty, I think the last paper I bought was The Sun. I wouldn't normally, but there were no TV magazines left, it was the only paper left at that time in the evening (barring a copy of Motorcycle News), and we needed to stock up on newsprint for the purposes of lining the waste food container in the kitchen. I don't think anyone read the actual paper itself :)

Well today I bought The Observer and there is no report of the Russia v Croatia semi-final - just Late Kick Off in the results section.
This is ridiculous for at £3 the most expensive Sunday Newspaper on the market not to feature a report on an event that finished before 2200 UK time. Had England been playing in the later semi rather than the earlier one I can't imagine this would have happened.

This used to happen a lot with The Independent before it's demise.

If there was anyone else who bought a Sunday Paper today did it feature a report on the Croatia / Russia match ?

It must have been a first edition - do they still sell the first editions of the Sunday papers outside railway stations on a Saturday night?

I look forward to reading the Metro on board my train journeys. With so many sections to dip in and out of it makes for a good read. I love the horoscopes the most

Erm, who else reads the Mail Online? (used to hate them too)

The Metro is quite nice to read.

Can't speak for the others, but the Sun on Sunday and Sunday Times both held for the result before going to print.

Also depends (heavily in some cases) whereabouts in the UK you are..

EDIT: With The Indy, they were always restricted in terms of press time by The Mirror (who printed The Indy). So yes, out of four editions the first (and quite often the second too) went 'off stone' before the matches could be covered. Now The Mirror print The Observer (and Guardian), they'll be in the same predicament editorially.

I seem to be unlucky as I used to have the same problem in Scotland before I moved down to Wales - late football matches not covered in the Indy and now the Observer.

I note The Observer is published in London and Manchester but printed in Watford, Oldham, Glasgow and Portadown.

Wales is miles from any of the printing locations which are in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Suprised no one prints in Bristol or somewhere a bit closer.

Scotland and Wales would get the early edition as you say, so wouldn't carry any late sport in The Indy or Guardian.

Yep, Guardian News & Media closed their printing plants when they switched from the Berliner format to tabloid at the turn of the year, and now Trinity Mirror print their product for them in the locations you mention above. Their offices are still in Kings Cross (York Way).

The Mail used to have a printing plant in Bristol a few years back but that's gone now. As a general rule, most are now in Hertfordshire / Essex for the south and west, Manchester / Liverpool for the north, and Glasgow for Scotland. The only noticeable exception to this is Johnston Press who have sites in Portsmouth and Sheffield.

You missed the 4th most read (5th if you count the Metro) printed daily from your list - the Evening Standard, which is pretty much the only one I read.

i don't read them as they are mainly rubbish. Comment and op ed pieces dressed up as news reporting, adverts dressed up as columns, obvious bias depending on the proprietors views and VERY expensive.

Also very late these days. I don't want yesterdays news today. I want tomorrows news today ;) i wouldn't mind if there was decent analysis of the issues but there simply isnt. Most of it is just fluff of pictures of some celeb in a bikini. Even in the "proper" papers!

I think that's why a lot of the more 'upmarket' weekly magazines are doing particularly well for themselves over the past couple of years. Heavy news agenda aside, there's a general feel across the industry that you don't go for print media for the latest news as was; more for the in-depth opinion and analysis. The Economist and Bloomberg Businessweek are two in particular, but even things like Private Eye are enjoying healthy sales in an otherwise challenging marketplace.

To be honest, TV news is the same these days, so I hardly ever bother to watch TV nor read papers.

My most convenient supermarket is a Waitrose so I pick up a free Times when shopping, mainly for the sudoku and the comment pages - in that order. I also buy the Eye to find out what is really going on.

I haven't wasted my money on a newspaper in over 20 years.

Should've been a don't read them in the poll.

If I'm travelling around I might pick up a Metro but it's free.:lol:

My dad buys the Daily Star what a load of ...................................

Haven't read a (printed) newspaper in years.

Who wants to read yesterday's news when you can read up to the minute (if you want to) online.

Today's newspaper = tomorrow's fish & chip wrapper (at least that used to be the case)

Personally I'm a great newspaper fan, and if I can get a chance will always read one. Can't sadly afford paper copies regularly, but read most of the guardian and times (thanks to their excellently priced student promotion) apps each day. Actually have proper journalism, which I don't find from non 'newspaper' sources. Went back to them after deciding the BBC website absolutely sucked and mostly did articles about how tough being in a minority is and how wonderful acceptance of them is. (Not that I disagree with it, I just want to read news, not that.)

Mostly Private Eye for me.

Someone once said that reading a Sardonic view of the news is the best way of reading unbiased news.

It's the only print news I read, I will admit if it's website covered as much as its magazine I'd read that instead.

I suppose it's healthy sales could be in that it appeals to a tiny niche within the media market of those who want unbiased, relatively trustworthy news, untainted by celebrity gossip, clickbaity crap ... top 10 things you never knew about Boris Johnsons cat etc etc.

Normally local news.

Occasionally the Mail, and also the Sun if Stan Collymore is being a massive git.

Like many on here I never read newspapers. It really should have been an option on your list.
