Because the 47 will be towing MK1s, the formation will be:
47 + 73 + MK1s + ?
a 47 and a 73, now thats worth seeing any day!!

St George's Day Gala Chinnor and Princes Risborough


We've listened to those enthusiasts and potential visitors who said it would be more helpful if we held our Gala Days on Saturdays instead of Sundays!

So on St George's Day, Saturday 23 April steam locomotive L92, together with all available heritage diesel locomotives and passenger rolling stock, will be operating throughout the day. The Class 17 Clayton should be running and she has been much admired on the SVR when attending other gala days - come and travel behind her on 'home territory' and enjoy the sights and sounds of her twin engines!

DEPARTURE TIMES TO BE ANNOUNCED

Trains will be in operation between 09.00 and 17.00. Also for the benefit of those visitors arriving by mainline train at Princes Risborough station there will be a limited capacity minibus service in operation between both stations - the 'bus link is FREE when you book online.


We also have a large free car park, cafe and souvenir shop available at Chinnor station.

Hoping to do Sunday and hoping to do the Break Van trip from Sheffield Park behind the class 09 Shunter if I can nab a ticket.

Never done a diesel gala before, so seeing as this one is local, it would be rude not to pop along and see what it's all about.

It's been more than a few years since I last did a gala myself, genuinely can't remember when it was. It was on the SVR when 47580 visited, couldn't stay for long sadly as the women of the house were bored!

Sat 28th to Mon 30th May 2016 - Visiting Main Line Diesel Locomotives; ‘Black Python’ Real Ale Bar open; signalling in Operation on the Branch Line.

Plus Dakota flypast (Sunday only) weather permitting & Oxford Ukuleles Big Band (Sunday only).

The Diesel Gala and Real Ale Festival over the Spring Bank Holiday is starting to take shape.

Confirmed visiting locomotives so far are:

GlosWarks Festival of Steam - 28-30 May 2016:

Looks set to be a decent event again. It seems very likely that 35006 P&O will be in service. Testing has been completed and the loco taken into traffic on the GWSR.

In light of No.4247's unfortunate circumstances, we have pulled out all the stops to get another locomotive to Chinnor and to ensure we can still put something of a show on for you.

A DB Cargo UK Class 66 will be operating trains between Chinnor and Thame Junction on Sat & Sun, 4-5 June!

Our aim for the guest Class 66 loco is to secure one that has never previously hauled a passenger train; however, please do bear in mind that we cannot absolutely guarantee it (for obvious reasons, because locos have to work hard to earn their keep). Full details, including timetables, will be released shortly.

Whichever Class 66 we have for the weekend it means that you will certainly have the rare opportunity to ride behind an everyday workhorse that you would normally only see hauling freight on the mainline, and not to be missed?

The Class 66 Weekend Event will also see the sole surviving Clayton class 17 put in an appearance, a small model railway exhibition, vintage fire truck on display and our Class 31, 31163 will also be on display - giving you the opportunity to see our early progress on restoration. Oh, and there will be eats and beer too, of course!

Also, for the benefit of those visitors arriving by mainline train at Princes Risborough station there will be a 'bus service in operation between both stations - the 'bus link is FREE when you book online. Former EWS Chief Executive Ed Burkhardt - the man who in 1996 placed the order that started a rail freight revolution, has said, "This locomotive revolutionised rail freight in the UK, and since has spread throughout Europe and beyond. It fulfilled our most exacting requirements, and remains Europe’s best diesel locomotive."
