Forth Bridge becomes a World Heritage Site

I'm quite sure in 10 years time we will have people capable of a painting a bridge, it might be big but it's only a bridge.

Looking through the pages of Rail Engineer magazine there have been several stories over the years about major renovations of Network Rail bridges. These will use similar techniques to the Forth Bridge so I don't think the skill is lost, although it might involve bringing in some non-local people on a contract when it next falls due.

The usual practice also is to get rid of all the old toxic paint on these jobs. If this was done with the Forth Bridge too then the next repainting should be easier because the paint that is there now is less damaging to the environment.

The job was done by Balfour Beatty and was scheduled to last 25 years, not 10.
