Fort William to Glasgow 29 August

I had hoped to book a £13.30 advance on either the 07.42 or (preferably) the 11.40 from Fort Willliam to Glasgow Queen Street on Friday 29 August. I' m certain I looked early on the day the fares were loaded but only £28.20 anytime singles were available. The allocation of advances must have been small or non-existant unless a group grabbed them all !

The coach is almost an hour quicker and would have been fine but Scottish Citylink has removed most advances this year and the journey costs £22.80 compared to the £5 I paid in August 2013 !

I know the fare's not that high for a four hour journey but is there any split to reduce it ?

Not sure if this is the cheapest option, but:
Fort William to Dalmuir - £12.80 Advance Single available on both trains you have mentioned
Dalmuir to Glasgow - £3.40 Anytime Day Single

Total £16.20 single

Ah yes, last Summer we had to 'split' at somewhere like Dalmuir too.

Perhaps it's a 'tax' on people who are not rail fare savvy?

Or perhaps (for Advance fares) it's just a bit busy, being the week of the English bank holiday?
