Does anyone know the actual station here, pretending to be Forres? (From new comedy Only Child)

Apparently it's Whitecraigs railway station. (On the suburban line from Glasgow Central out to Neilston).

Probably Whitecraigs was easier for the film crew and cast to get to, from Central Scotland. Other key filming locations all seem to be in the Glasgow/Barrhead area.

It is indeed Whitecraigs, and as it is on my local line I am delighted that we now apparently have direct trains to Inverness!

It was much prettier until recently when it was rebuilt, although it was only single track and did need the rebuild.

About a mile of totally new railway, in fact - the line was straightened to run through the old goods yard, the loop to the east of the old station lengthened, and an entirely new station built. Advantage was taken of the old station site being cleared to bridge the line and close a level crossing.

The new station might be a bit soulless, but it at least isn't replete with reminders of the decline of Forres station!

"Attractive" is a word that I definitely wouldn't associate with the new Forres station. It is rather soul-less, but it's functional and having the passing loop within the station is far better than the previous arrangement. I actually prefer to use Forres now as it's free to park while my nearest station (Elgin) now charges.

To be fair, the previous Forres station wasn't exactly pretty, either. Having said that, it seemed to be quite well-kept. I think I only ever used the old station once, having fallen asleep on the last train back from Aberdeen and missing my stop - an expensive mistake!

It had a kind of charm and sense of presence, like it was a Railway Station, not merely somewhere one got on a train. Of course, that's largely because when it was built, it was a main line junction station with five platforms.

There are people who talk wistfully about the Findhorn railway. Which is a good trick, since it closed in 1869.
