Hi, I had an ALR and left it at home not realising until at the station. I still had to travel so I purchased walk up tickets at the station, for the connecting journey and the return. Would I have any way to recover the extra expense?

Insurance would probably cover it but that's not usually valid without an overnight stay.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

It's at the discretion of the TOC.

If you bought all tickets (original and replacements) from the same point of sale then you might have more of a chance...

You don't get if you don't ask. Some TOCs can be surprisingly generous in these situations.

Did you use the same card for both payments, card receipts or even a copy of a card statement would be very useful to include as they should show that the same card was used for both payments to prove it wasn't just you submitting someone else's tickets.

There is no stated 'right' to a refund, but it may be granted by some TOCs. However, even with proof of payment by the same card, I am not convinced that I would authorise such a refund as it involves a rather significant can of worms!

One reason which explains why some Companies might be less willing to be generous to you is a suspicion that the person seeking the refund of a ticket might have some other reason for thier inability to present the ALR. e.g. the ALR was being used at the same time (by them or by someone else). Anyone with suspicions might need some more tangible evidence than simply a claim that "I left it at home".
