I'm off to a Christmas party on December 5th which starts at 6pm.

NRE suggests the 1656 Southern service to London Bridge arrive 1712 then the 1727 FCC arriving at St. Pancras International at 1745.

I'm also considering London Overground to Whitechapel and the Hammersmith & City line to Kings Cross St.Pancras which will be charged at the TfL off- peak fare to Zone 1. Is the walk to St. Pancras station a long walk from the SSL tube platforms to the station?

Is it worth also considering getting the Northern line from London Bridge, although I'll be charged the TfL premium Oyster fare?

The Met line ticket hall (Western ticket hall) is pretty much underneath the front of St Pancras Int'l station. It's less than 20 seconds between passing through the gateline to the Eurostar booking office.

The TfL Journey planner recommends the route you would like to try; Overground to Whitechapel and Hammersmith/City line to Kings + St Pancras.
