Forest Hill to Epsom 30/5

I'm planning to travel to Epsom on the 30th May after 1000 with my mother who has a Older Person's Freedom Pass, travelling either via West Croydon or Balham changing for Southern services.

For me, it's pretty straight forward, I intend to buy a Forest Hill to Epsom NOT LONDON CDR using the Southern website for the 10% discount.

For my mother, should I buy a Boundary Zone 6 CDR or Ewell East to Epsom CDR, the latter which I can buy from the Southern website? I know the Boundary Z6 ticket gives my mother the same flexibility as I'd have with my ticket which is valid on SWT to Clapham Junction.

You can buy the Boundary Z6 ticket on the day from Southern's ticket machines, so no need to have to use a ticket office either (of course it can also be bought anytime before that at any ticket office to save time). Although a Ewell East-Epsom CDR ticket is 10p cheaper than a BZ6-Epsom so it depends on if you want the extra flexibility for 10p

Forest Hill is a LOROL managed station, so doesn't have the option to buy Boundary Zone tickets from the TVM's, which is a tad frustrating.

That's true, ticket office should issue it, alternatively use a TVM at Balham/West Croydon when changing. Or just buy the ticket available online if you're happy to be limited to the Southern services via Ewell East instead of SWT, don't think it would be faster via SWT and Clapham Junction?

West Croydon is an LO station so the TVM is no good.

I can go to North Dulwich, East Dulwich or Peckham Rye and buy the Boundary Zone 6 ticket from the TVM's there if required.

LOROL ticket offices are mixed when it comes to knowing the right thing about tickets going by previous posts on this forum.

So I went to North Dulwich to have a play with the Southern TVM. The start from another station option was easy enough to find, put in BZ6 to Epsom for tomorrow and it'd only offer me the Anytime Day Single or Return.

I take it that if I wish to buy the CDR from the TVM, I'll have to buy on the day?

My station has boundary zone extension tickets on the ticket machine, I don't know if this is new but it was definitely there yesterday. I have a travelcard but usually buy a ticket to my parents from the train line and pick it up, or if I've forgotten then I normally end up having to buy it from barking. I will give it a try.

Do you buy from thetrainline.com? If so, choose another site to buy your tickets - they charge booking and credit card fees.

Have started buying from Southern website as I noticed they don't charge a booking fee but didn't realise before there was any difference

Most if not all TOC's don't charge a fee when buying tickets online from my own experience of buying from the Southern and SWT websites.

You may notice that some TOC's use The Train Line's ticket selling template online, without the charge.
