I asked a similar question last summer, but I think the circumstances are slightly different this year.

I'm going next Friday 14th June off-peak with my elderly mother who holds a Freedom Pass. Southern's WebTIS quotes £20.30 CDR as part of their 10% discounted ticket offer with the £3 PLUSBUS brings that up to £23.30.

Now if it wasn't for the 10% discount on Southern's website, I'd go for a Boundary Z6 return, however it appears the cheapest ticket for her as she doesn't have a Senior Railcard is £16.40 from East Croydon (Any Permitted) which is only 30p more than the FCC only CDR. I haven't added PLUSBUS as her Freedom Pass will cover her on Brighton & Hove buses.

If there is a cheaper way of doing this, I'd appreciate any advice, although Daysave really isn't an option as I don't want to be tied to Southern services and their restrictions into London in the evening peak.

Just my two pence worth, there are no restrictions from Brighton towards London in the evening peak, only the opposite direction out of London/Clapham and East Croydon is restricted. So if it wasn't for the bus element of your trip I would consider a Daysave (although you have to order them at least 7 days in Advance!)

How about a all network downlander valid after 10am

£16.00 for travel across the whole Southern network and South Downs area with Southern train services (including Crawley, Horsham, Redhill, East Croydon and London Victoria) and unlimited bus travel within the Downs area.

Can be booked 2 days before online.

According to Southern's site, the Downlander has gone up by a horrendous 50p, now at £16.50

Thanks, I'd choose that option, however I'd like the ability to use FCC if it's the first fastest train back, also I don't trust London Overground staff knowledge of the various promotional tickets going by other threads on here with ticketing problems.

I'd consider an FCC only CDR from London Bridge if they're cheaper?

Yes, it'd be £1.90 off peak or £2.50 peak single to East Croydon.

So depending on what time I return to East Croydon, it'd be a total of £23.80 (Southern Web CDR/£3 PLUSBUS, Oyster Z3-5 NR off-peak and one peak journey) if I return during the evening peak or £23.20 after 1900.

It can be shaved off slightly if I use Tramlink as I have a Bus+Tram season and then London Overground from West Croydon (£2.30/£1.50).

I cant check as Im in the middle east atm but my understanding was that if you go for TOD (southern only stations) the daysave 7 days in advance rule was removed when the tickets were moved to the main Web-tis site. I'd rather imagined that this was as a step to becoming de facto the outer zones cap for off peak travel when the key starts to eliminate paper tickets.
