With two Welsh Football clubs in the Conference Premier Play Off Final, anticipation is high for May the 5th with the potential for another team from Wales to achieve promotion this season.

For Newport County AFC fans travelling to London, services provided by First Great Western will offer the most direct route, and First Great Western are running two additional services each way between Cardiff Central and London Paddington calling at Newport. Further information on these services can be found at www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk.

For Wrexham FC fans, Arriva Trains Wales are running an additional service from Wrexham General to Birmingham New Street. This additional train will depart from Wrexham General on Sunday 5th May, at 0900 arriving in Birmingham New Street at 1028. Regular onward connections to Wembley are available from Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Moor St, information on these onward services can be found by visiting www.nationalrail.co.uk. The return services departing Birmingham New Street at 1924 and 2124 will have additional carriages for returning Wrexham FC fans.

A limited number of guaranteed places on the additional ATW service to Birmingham New Street will be made available from Wrexham Booking Office on the afternoon of Wednesday 1st May 2013. Those without reservations, but with valid tickets on that route will be allocated space on the additional train on a first come, first served basis.

Arriva Trains Wales will be providing an extra train, but this will not run direct to Wembley due to pre-planned engineering work in the Birmingham area being undertaken by Network Rail.

The additional train will depart from Wrexham General at 0900 arriving in Birmingham New Street at 1028.

The return services departing Birmingham New Street at 1924 and 2124 will have additional carriages for returning Wrexham FC fans.

The extra train running from Wrexham General to Birmingham for onwards travel, sold out within hours. Good to see ATW assisting fans from Wrexham once again to get to Wembley, ATW staff have told me "Gerald" would have been used all the way, but engineering has got in the way.

Probably worth mentioning the connections available from Birmingham Moor Street for the game too then:


There will be a half hourly service from Moor Street to Wembley Stadium from 10:13 through to 13:13 (The 10:13, 10:43, 11:13, 11:43, 12:13, 12:43 & 13:13 trains to Marylebone will all stop at Wembley Stadium station) the 13:13 arrives at Wembley at 15:02 and it's a five minute walk from the station to the Stadium.

There is a half hourly service back from Wembley Stadium station to Birmingham for two hours after the final whistle (departures from Wembley Stadium to Birmingham leave at 17:11, 17:44, 18:10, 18:44 & 19:10)

The transfer from New Street to Moor Street might be easier than negotiating the Underground for some people. Trains take roughly 1hr 50 from Wembley to Moor Street.


It's also probably worth mentioning for people coming in from Newport that Beaconsfield gets a lot of trains to Wembley Stadium too on match days, it's about fifteen minutes from Junction 7 of the M4 so it might be a handy park and ride.

Also might be worth mentioning the new access and exit arrangements at New Street . The exit normally used from New Street to Moor Street is now closed and whilst there's lots of helpful staff to guide you to the new exit it might be useful to see the map below courtesy of Network Rail.

You were spot on, two X three car 175s were used for the 0900 departure.
