Footbridge at North Camp?

When is FGW or NR or someone going to build a footbridge at North Camp because once again the barriers went down on me and I couldnt get to platform 1. I thought about running across but then quickly thought about a book I had read. I had to wait half an hour for the next train to Reading. Spent most of the time playing with the ticket machine. Seeing how much it cost to get a ticket to thurso or Penzance from North Camp.

It would be NR who build it. FGW can ask them, but NR as landlord decide if they will build one and pay for it (possibly recovering the cost in increased rent to FGW/successors)

Shame they don't still have the flat pack concrete version the southern used to just slap up anywhere. You can still find plenty around in Kent.

You ought to have seen the whinging & whining about the gates at Ash in the Surrey Advertiser earlier in the year, it was shameful..

I've had to wait 10 mins in my car at the gates, I missed my connection... Blah, Blah, Blah.

Well there are some alternative routes for cars, unfortunately not so for passengers, you must allow at least 5 mins for any connection at Ash.

I dont care about the cars. Anyway Its only 10mins bring a book or something if they cant stand waiting for that short amount of time.

They better get used to it, because if the planned upgrade goes ahead to make the NDL a part of SFN, they could be waiting there a darn sight longer.

Could you give some details of the planned upgrade please SWT Driver? The only schemes that I'm aware of for the NDL are connected with the Reading resignalling! What is SFN? :???:

SFN - Strategic Freight Network.

It's proposed that the line is upgraded to allow CT freight to use it as an alternative to going via the WLL & WCML to the Midlands & the North.

There's also a rumour doing the rounds that the NDL could yet be electrified as part of the FGW electrification, however I think I'll take it with an unhealthy dose of salt, until it's formally announced.

I think you're right to take this with a pinch of salt. Any large scale use of the NDL for freight would require a flyover to be built at Redhill to allow trains to reach Tonbridge and the Tunnel without reversing. Given the other spending commitments of NR at the moment, I can't see it happening in the next ten years... :roll:

I do find the length of time those gates are down is dubious considering the linespeed and where the protecting signals are, i believe there is only one passenger train each way, per hour, that doesn't call at Ash.
Wokingham barriers are terrible, they are almost constantly down and they gridlock the immediate area, especially the station carpark.
Klambert, next time have alook in the waiting room/ticket office. There is a good selection of used books there, all available to buy for a small donation to the nearby Frimley Park hospital. I try to pick one up at least once a month and i've never disappointed. If i can't find something to my liking, there is usually something suitable for the Nephew.
I think Farnborough North will be higher on the list for footbridges, given that there is a red/green light foot crossing that is frequently abused.

From what I can recall there's been two fatalities there as well, where people have got off one train, walked round the back & been mown down by a Gatwick.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it happens at Woodlesford in Yorks as well. The number of times a Leeds bound express speeds past just after passengers have got off the Sheffield stopper. Someones bound to assume that the flashing red lights are due to the stopper in the platform one day.
