Really? I would beg to differ that the former is much more hated! When was the last time Villa fans staged a 24-hour protest or simultaneous marches against McLeish?

Watching the Tottenham v. Newcastle match last night on MOTD, I was really surprised that a team as high so up in the Premiership as Newcastle United made so many basic defensive mistakes in the first half and to go in at half-time 4-0 down must have been quite a shock for them. That said, the new pairing up front of Saha (ex Everton) and Adebayour for Tottenham reacted very quickly to these mistakes to score.
I have noticed in recent threads that certain Newcastle United fans on the forum have made comments about James Perch, who joined them in 2010 from Nottingham Forest. He really does not seem to have the quality to play at Premiership level and his positional defensive ability leaves much to be desired. When I did some research on this player, one fact came up which said that he created a record in the Premiership by receiving five yellow cards in the first five matches that he played at this level.

I think the sad thing about Villa is that Randy Lerner has realised just how much money needs to be spent to have a decent stab at the Premiership title, and even the top four Champions League places, and he has decided that he cannot (or will not) fund that level of investment.
This is the downside of the silly money being paid by Man City and Chelsea while trying to buy their way to the top on a regular basis.
Whether the financial fair play rules will have any effect remains to be seen, but I imagine they will get bogged down in a legal minefield.

Manchester United have spent too but you don't see it in the Old-Trafford friendly press.
Any premiership manager would need to spend megabucks to do so and Lerner has already been stung by [sarcasm]Saint[/sarcasm] O'Neill who spent big money on players who made nowhere near enough appearances to justify their price tag: Reo Coker, Curtis Davies, Zat Knight, Salifou, Sidwell, Delph and these were the more expensive players who did little more than warm the subs bench.
I can understand why Lerner is reluctant to spend after bankrolling such folly but he does need to put his hand in his pocket. I can only speak for myself but I would be happy to see the Villa top half finishers with the occasional push to Europe or a cup run.
We've long had a small squad from long before Lerner came in and all in all it's still better to have Lerner than Deadly Doug.
It will be as useful as a chocolate teapot. Man City (iirc) got far more money then they should have for shirt and ground sponsorship who happen to be the same company as the guy bankrolling them. Rich people tend to know how to abuse loopholes more or can hire those that do know.
Remember the 25 man squad with a set number of foreigners? It was an abject failure and iirc in that season Man City basically bought everyone up and loaned them out prompting Redknapp to say that this was to prevent their rivals signing said players.

Wolves v West Brom in twenty minutes time. If we win this, I can see us beating a morally defeated Newcastle, and then it's Fulham and Blackburn.
We could win all four! I don't see Wolves as a bad team, just an unfortunate one. Nothing to say we couldn't win all four.
After that our only big games are Man U and Arsenal, the rest is mid-table obscurity. I fancy our chances.

The defensive display last night was nothing short of shambolic, marking appeared to be non exsistent The role of holding the ball - acting as a defensive midfielder, played admirably by Tiote was also non exsistent. James Perch is no replacement for him.
Cabaye and Tiote should be back for our next match against Wolves in two weeks and hopefully this will be the key to a better result.
I absolutely loathe Man Utd, but even I can put this one to bed in comparison to Chelsea and Man city. Since the Premier League began in 1992, here is the net transfer spend.
Chelsea - £515,965,000
Man City - £483,127,000
Man Utd - £177,310,000
That is why it isn't in the "Old Trafford friendly" press, because they simply have spent nowhere near.
Here is a staggering fact though, although they have only been in 18 out of the 20 seasons of the Premier League. Blackburn actually have a transfer profit of £3,723,000 in those 18 years. It's amazing they have managed to be there so long.

The money has gone in getting the club back on an even keel after the O'Neill years. Unfortunately he left us in a bit of a mess with lots of average players on very long contracts with high wages. Crowds are down on average by about 8000 this season. As it stands we need that money to keep to Lerners wish of a self sustaining club

I see both Dalglish and Suarez have apologised now.

I know, and as a Liverpool supporter for 45 years I am disgusted with some of the opinions expressed there.
I have read the FA report into the incident and if I had been Dalglish I would have had a private word with Ferguson in January and worked out a way to get the two players to make a public display of conciliation.
I know both players have admitted to making insulting comments to each other, and the quicker a line was drawn under the episode the better.
I am pleased to see that United have issued their own statement thanking Liverpool for the three apologies (Suarez, Ayre and Dalglish).
Now all that is needed is for the media to drop the subject.

I was watching the Wolves game, turned it off at half time and can't believe the end result.
Watching the City game now and having real problems telling the difference between our lot and the villains. Surely Villa could play in their away kit and us in something a bit different as the black vs claret is a bit of a tough one... Not the best game so far, I can't figure out why we are not 2 nil up, it's just not coming together and that is when teams tend to get us.
As for the Suarez issue I am more than sick of hearing about it, he said something that he probably shouldnt have, was punished, was not happy about it so didn't shake the hand of his accuser (who appears to be getting away unpunished for his behaviour post match) and the media just won't drop it... ENOUGH!!!!!!!

Fat chance, the media loves this sort of story as it gives them an opportunity to be self-righteous. If they don't make reference to it in MOTD2 I shall be surprised although Man City, Villa, West Brom and Wolves should be the focus.
Why shouldn't we play in our home kit? Isn't this the reason clubs have three kits (I admit I could be wrong on this)?
I'm not listening because I don't want to jinx it. Would you say we're playing 8 men behind the ball and encamped in our half?

I cannot remember this much fuss being made about Wayne Bridge not shaking John Terry's hand in a Chelsea vs Man City match two years ago? Maybe the FA should have cancelled the handshake like they did for the Chelsea vs QPR match for John Terry and Anton Ferdinand

I think that they would have cancelled the handshake had they known what would happen, but Suarez seems to have told Dalglish he was going to shake hands and changed his mind on the pitch, or lied to his manager before the game.
