Some huuuuge news out of Glanford Park tonight. Scunthorpe United have signed Jon Parkin on loan from Cardiff.

It was noticeable how the recent years transfer "multi-million" pound deals have suddenly come to a somewhat financial sensibility, no doubt helped by the European "football financial fair-play" regulation that is in the back of all the top Premiership club managers.

The rise in the higher rate of taxation in Britain did have some detrimental effect on the importation of overseas players, but the biggest draw for these players regarding salaries available is found in Russia at present....and their transfer window is said to extend much further than the British one.

Manchester City must be wondering if the Carlos Tevez debacle will ever end as he has now made an appeal against the multi-week fine applied by the club. With matters being as they are and Tevez still residing in his native country since the affair blew up, the Professional Footballers Association will be very hard pressed to submit a case of mitigation, as they did earlier in the season.

He is a 20 year old footballer. To have opposition fans shouting racial abuse at you must be hard to take at such a young age and with such inexperience. Of course John Terry wouldn't have reacted the same way, he's been around for over 13 years!

I notice that a "media" follow-up to the John Terry case appears to consider the appearance of John Terry at the European 2012 Championships far more important than him having to face trial for the offence, as the trial has "very strangely" been put back in the court diary register of this case, which is now not to be held until 9th July 2012.

Has anyone on the forum any views on this matter?

Leeds United have today dispensed with the services of Simon Grayson and his coaching staff.

Chief Executive Shaun Harvey said: "We have 18 games to go this season and are still within touching distance of the Play-Offs, but felt with the transfer window now closed we needed to make the change at this time in the belief that a new managerial team will be able to get more out of the existing squad of players and make the difference."

Simon and his staff have given the club over three good years service and we would like to place on record our thanks and wish them all the best for the future.

Current youth team manager Neil Redfearn has been asked to take temporary charge of the first team until a new manager is available.

Thanks for promotion from League 1 Simon. Wish you had been backed by the chairman and the rest of the board. Wasn't too keen on the fondness of loanees, or the sometimes odd squad and tactical choices. He will be missed, we are not going up this year.

I'm concerned that he's going to turn into Deadly Doug II which is definitely scary. Back before he came in it wasn't all that important to spend money and do well but now it's pretty much essential to spend to stay up.

Huge rumours, and I'll say again rumours, that Rangers are going to announce they are going into administration on Wednesday.

Given it is a rumour coming out of Glasgow always take it with a pinch of salt.

What a great rumour that turned out to be.

Turned out the big hooha the papers published was about Whyte selling on future season ticket revenue for a one off payment just now but practically everyone know that anyway.

Should Rangers go out of business I reckon the knock on would end up being ~£500k per club per season, excluding Celtic.

Now, what I've based that on is the tickets that Rangers fans buy for away games that fans of other sides wouldn't buy and also any tv deal would be on reduced terms so that as well.

That would be a lot of money for some some sides to lose.

On the flip side, I think that whilst very few Rangers fans would start supporting another SPL side a decent number of them might start following a lower league or maybe even Junior side instead so they might see a benefit.

Villa won't go down this year with Bolton, Wigan, Wolves, Rovers and QPR still around. Trust me. The only set of fans who hate their boss more than you at the moment are Blackburn fans.

Credit where its due we played really well tonight and should have won. But we just cannot keep teams out and it is getting very worrying. The problem is we have a pretty horrendous run in. Playing a lot of the top teams in the last 10 or so games. If we are not well clear of the bottom 3 entering these game then we have problems. The teams at the bottom will start fighting and battling for every point during this period.
I still maintain we are not immune from relegation just yet. There is always one team every season that drops from a seemingly safe position to get relegated
