Terrible performance by super Leeds at the weekend. Very lucky to escape from Watford with a point although i'm not sure why the Watford coaching staff and fans were so upset with the penalty Leeds got. Their defender almost took off Varynyn's head, shocking awful challenge.

We didn't deserve a goal on the balance of play but the actual decision from the ref for the pen was spot on.

Has anyone seen what's happening to Sir Chris Hoy on Twitter? He's being lambasted by Spurs fans who think it was he who refereed their game against Stoke yesterday, not Chris Foy.

The match next Monday between Chelsea and Manchester City will be interesting, seeing how far away (in points terms) Chelsea are from mounting a title challenge, boosted by their win and qualification in the Champions League, whereas Manchester City will still be smarting from elimination from the Champions League (despite beating Bayern Munich in the last group match) and may feel that they have a point to prove to the other teams in the Premier League about their pedigree as a team that can react from adversity.

In response to the quote above that I posted last week, the 2-1 win by Chelsea, despite being a goal down after 2 minutes, has at least raised them by to third place in the Premiership.

The PFA and the BSP league committee have held meetings to discuss the situation with Darlo players not being paid. I am standing by for a points deduction as BSP officals are very hard on financial problems!

Though I sympathise with your pain (family of Luton fans, though I don't follow football), what is the point of a points deduction in such circumstances? The club is clearly non-functional, so either a) bump it down to an amateur league fr it to rebuild or b) help it financially. A deduction will solve nothing, and will just make those at the club more desperate.
Still, it could be worse. I'd really start worrying if you appointed Peter Risdale as Chairman

Heart of Midlothian FC have not paid their players since early November... And what are the SPL/SFA doing about it? Absolutely nothing. No transfer embargos AFAIK, there will probably be a points deduction later this season when they are forced into administration with a crippling tax bill to pay from their court case with HM revenue. Hearts have previous under the present dictatorship for not paying bills or players, and the players' union is urging something to be done sharpish.

I wouldn't shed a tear if they went bust though, they are a prime example of how not to run a football club. Good riddance to the Pink Beast Shelter!

That is probably as fair a way of "disciplining" the side as any. They are not (necessarily) going to be relegated, and can still go for promotion (if they feel that is economically desirable). But have to get their house in order. They have a choice now - get things on an even keel or carry on with their fingers in their ears, whining "unfair, you're punishing the fans, etc etc"

but none of that actually reflects the situation at Darlo. Our situation seems to have been casued by the chairman just deciding not to pay people wha the both agreed and budgeted for.

We also have the problem of our massive vanity stadium!

Yes, as I said, I feel for you. But this sounds so similar to what happened at Luton (Leeds, Plymouth, Portsmouth - the list goes on). Chairmen can often simply be crooks.

I don't think it's been established. I suspect the competition will come from either Sheffield Utd v Salisbury or Liverpool v Oldham.

I can see it being the latter given ITVs immense favouritism.

Given the amount of disasters Ridsdale has presided over you have to wonder why football clubs still want to get involved with him.

Once is unlucky and you could say twice is careless but that's 4 teams he has been involved with you have all ended up with massive financial problems.

Having already qualified from Group E in the Europa League, Stoke City manager Tony Pulis chose none of the team that had beaten Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday for the final group match against Besiktas, which are quite a strong side. Despite taking the lead, Stoke City lost 3-1 and finished in second place in the group. The unfortunate thing is that by finishing in second place, they could be drawn against teams who have now entered the Europa League from the Champions League group 3rd place cascadement....and we know who two of these teams are.

Celtic play Udinese tonight in a "win or bust" scenario in terms of their qualification aspirations.

This is one of those situations where I really don't actually want to cheer on my team's fierce rivals, but on the other hand mindful of the fact that Scottish football needs all the coefficient points it can get...

Any particular reason? (Other than St Pauli, where I'm aware of the "Celtic connection"...)

Especially as Cardiff have over the years had a fairly strong Rangers contingent; maybe I'm being unusual but I often tend to look out for ex-Gers men or Gers supporters...
