It appears that the rumours concerning Steed Malbranque began to appear in August this year after his move from Sunderland to AS Saint-Etienne on a two year contract.
Steed Malbranque, through his London based solicitors Thomas Cooper, has now issued a statement totally denying any such claims concerning his family.
A sick rumour for someone to be spreading.

Gary Speed has introduced a passing scheme into the Welsh team in his time as manager, which was shown to good effect in both defense and midfield. The last two games played by Wales in terms of the quality of football shows that their unbelieveably low rating in world football will soon be rising rapidly.

A bad night for my first team Northern Ireland. What happened to the team that beat England and Spain? 
I remember that match in 2005 and it showed just how rubbish England were at the time and I didn't expect them to do well in the World Cup. England were still the #2 seeds though for the World Cup in 2006 though, just behind Brazil.

Scotland had numerous first-half chances, none more so than the penalty awarded to them just before half-time, that Darren Fletcher sidefooted with a lack of enough power and the Lithuanian goalkeeper saved well. Aye not very good for England last night - one glaring thing(apart from Smalling) that annoyed the life out of me was they were in a good position to attack and then just played the ball back - sometimes back over their own 1/2 way line.. Amazingly stupid.
I wouldnt care if they lost possession in the others box - thats what happens but when you carry on playing backwards your making yourself too easy a target and its plain stupid.

The "get a goal early and defend for the rest of the match" tactic has been used for quite some time now by England and whereas it may work well against the likes of Wales it often lets England down against stronger opposition. That said, Spain won many of their World Cup matches last year 1-0 so it can work.

That method has been used in Italian football for ages now. It is suited to the "have and hold" method of coaching that has been preached in Italy since the 1960's.

When the English and Italian teams have used that tactic at major competitions though it has often resulted in the other team holding them or equalizing and then going to extra time and then penalties which England and Italy tend to lose. If Germany had held on for 3 more minutes in the 2006 semi-final they would most likely have knocked Italy out on penalties and gone on to beat France in the final to win the World Cup they hosted. Germany have not missed a single penalty in a major competition shootout since 1982, England have missed ten penalties in major competition shootouts since 1990.

The name of the tactic is catenaccio which translates to "door bolt" and is there to prevent goals being conceded. As far as I know, it has never been used as a defensive tactic in English domestic football, but it was a feature in Italian domestic football, especially at serie A level. Inter Milan in particular used this to great effect in both domestic and European competitions.
A recent use of this tactic was used to great success by Otto Rehhagel, the German coach of the Greek national side, in the 2004 European Championship, which they won, despite having been classed as rank outsiders.

FC Sion have made some rather strange comments about their appeal against being ejected from the Champions League, even though they admit to playing certain players who were ineligable. It appears they are determined to cause as much embarrassment as possible, but they do not seem to understand that this will see an even greater punishment inflicted upon their club in terms of participation in future years European team tournements.

I see that Gary Cook, the Manchester City CEO, finally did the right thing and resigned over the e-mail that he sent to Dr. Onuoha, the mother of the player at the club. He childishly tried to claim that he had not sent it, until the club internal investigation commenced.

I havw been really impressed by the way that Stoke have come on in the past few years. People may be critical about their overly aggresive style of play, but if that wins you matches, I'm all for it!
